{baby d 2.0}: twenty three weeks

23 weeks

This week's post will be a bit of a catch up post since I haven't posted a weekly pregnancy recap since twenty weeks

Feeling: overall, still pretty good. My lower back started hurting around twenty one weeks, which was oddly the same with Amelia. Still lots of heartburn, but the headaches have decreased which is nice. I can definitely feel it in my hips/groin if I overdo it with walking or exercising.

There was a week where I was super tired and I was either in bed or falling asleep on the couch by 9pm.

I will admit that I am struggling with my pregnant body this time- between my boobs, butt and face, they are all expanding pretty rapidly. I know it's only for a period of time, but still hard.

22 weeks

Workouts: lots of walks either with Harley or at lunch, and then I am either doing workouts from Fitness Blender or 21 day fix with modifications.

Other: this baby is a wiggle worm some days! On the weekend, I was sitting on the couch and he moved so much that you could see my belly move. Pretty cool!

22 weeks

Not going so well in the name department- we've got super short list, but are finding that boy names are hard.

Made our first baby related purchase- bought a new to us City Select stroller that came with the two seats. I knew I wanted a double stroller if I was going to be going out with both kids as I wasn't a huge fan of baby wearing with Amelia. Also because Amelia likes to have tantrums and run away from me, so I knew I can't wrangle her plus a stroller :) I was having trouble finding the car seat adapter I needed for the stroller, but found one on a buy and sell group and Brie kindly picked it up for me since it was near her.

This and that

A little bit of randomness coming at you today.
  • remember when I talked about how a parcel of ours went missing from our old house? I have no idea where the communication break down was, but Brian ended up going over there (we had the city assessment that was sent to us for them). Turns out they had our parcel plus a bunch of other mail for us. We had left them one of our cell phone numbers, but it apparently didn't work for them. Oh well, glad they had everything for us!
  • I had my first labour and delivery dream last week- and it was a weird one!
  • I mentioned this on Twitter, but please for the love of god don't record an IG story right after you eat. I hate when people move those random bits of food left in their mouth around with their tongue while talking. Grosses me out! And no stories while you/someone is eating. Maybe that's just me as I HATE the sound of people eating.
  • I also mentioned this on Twitter, but are podcasts the new blogs? Feels like lots of the bloggers are starting their own podcasts.
  • here are some recent meals we've had:
We don't have much planned for the weekend- Harley has a vet appointment on Saturday and then Brian is going biking on Sunday. I kind of want to do a fun craft with for Valentine's with Amelia, but we'll see how co-operative she is ;)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Scenes from the weekend + Brie's baby shower

Happy Monday everyone! We had a good weekend even though we got a huge dump of snow. And more to come over the next day or so.

{friday} Brian was playing squash after school with co-workers, so it was just Amelia and I for a while. We had dinner and hung out while I did a workout. Once Amelia was in bed, I made some cookie dough and did some other prep for Brie's shower on Sunday.

{saturday} we were both wide awake before 7am (I had a terrible sleep that night), so I got started on making cookies before Amelia woke up. In the later morning, Brian went to get groceries while Amelia and I went to the library to pick up some books. After the library, we stopped at Tim Horton's for two Tim Bits. Let's just say that someone was very upset that hers were gone and mom wasn't buying anymore ;)

She went down for a much needed 3 hour nap, so I had one myself and then took Harley for a walk. We didn't do much the rest of the day- just hung out and picked up take out for dinner.

{sunday} baby shower day! I spent the morning getting the house and food ready for the shower. Brian was kind of enough to entertain Amelia and then take her to the mall to get out of the house while I got ready. The weather wasn't the greatest, so we had some people cancel coming, but I think it still turned out great!

If you know Brie at all, you know that she loves reading. I decided to go with a book theme for the shower, which was made super easy thanks to Pinterest! For the food, we had:

Meatballs- cloudy with a chance of meatballs
Quiche- green eggs and ham
Caramel corn- hop on pop
Muffins- if you give a moose a muffin (thanks again Alison!)
Cookies- if you give a mouse a cookie
Veggies- the tale of peter rabbit
Fruit skewers- the hungry caterpillar
Goldfish and blue whales candy- one fish, two fish, etc

Thanks for your help Alison and Nicole! And to everyone that was able to come today :)

Tell me: how was your weekend?

Blog Squad workouts: Revive Lifestyle Fitness

Two weekends ago, the blog squad was offered the chance to try a workout class at Revive Lifestyle Fitness.  I had originally said no to going as we had Amelia's birthday party earlier in the day, but was able to get cleaned up so I decided to join in. I had no idea what to expect from the class except that it was similar to Orange Theory Fitness, which I enjoyed.

Revive is a new fitness studio having opened only three months ago. The studio definitely looks brand new and gorgeous! They did such a fantastic job setting it up. The studio consists of the main workout room, which features spin bikes, rowers, TRX and kettlebells. Before we knew it, Mike had us on the spin bikes. We started off by inputting our weight, age, sex, and activity level to figure out our functional threshold watt (FTW), which figured out your target zones. The zones were: blue (warm up), green (easy), yellow (moderate), and red (all out). We were on the bike for twenty minutes, and Mike had us working through a workout that included taking us into each of the different zones (ie: all out for a minute). There were TV screens in front of the bikes, so we could easily see how much time was left in each zone and what the next zone was going to be. Being almost twenty weeks pregnant at the time, it wasn't long before my heart rate was up there and I was working up a sweat!

The twenty minutes went by super quickly, and then we were off to the rowers. I've done lots of rowing in crossfit, so I know how great of a workout it can be!
After the rowing workout, we were onto the floor for the strength portion of the workout which included TRX moves (I couldn't do all of them due to being pregnant) and kettlebells. They have a board which shows you the strength portion of the class - and it changes every day.

Pretty sure we all thought were done after the last rowing section, but Mike had another surprise for us. A partner challenge! The partner challenge had one partner rowing 500ms while the other partner did 10 burpees and then held a plank until the other partner finished rowing. Once you both completed the 500m row, you then moved onto 400ms. It was tough!

Overall, I loved the workout! It wasn't just 40-60 minutes of one thing, but instead gave you a full body workout.

What you need to know

Location: 2503 14th Street SW
To bring: water, comfortable workout clothes, workout shoes

Thanks again to Mike and Revive Lifestyle Fitness for having us!

{baby d 2.0}: twenty weeks

Look! An actual picture and not just me in the mirror for once ;)

Feeling: still feeling good, but have had lots of heartburn this week. Wonder if this baby will have a full head of hair like Amelia did?

Workouts: still going pretty strong on the workouts. Mix of walking Harley, a run and Fitness Blender workouts. I love those!

Other: most exciting part of the week was seeing baby at our ultrasound and of course finding out that we are having a BOY! We started discussing names and haven't found one that either of us agree on yet. Names are hard.
