Recent workouts

Since my time to workout is pretty limited these days, I'm all about the at home workouts that don't take any fancy equipment. Even better if they aren't super long. I love doing workouts that others recommend, so I wanted to share some that I've done recently.

From Fitness Blender- a great website with lots of free workout videos

Quick lifting session
Quick 10 minute upper body
Fun 10 minute abs and obliques
Fat burning HIIT cardio

From Lauren Gleisberg

Legs + glute workout
Back, biceps + delts workout

I've also gone to Tara aka Top Knot Mommy's babe with babes class. You can bring the kids, get your sweat on and let the kids play. It's great and hopefully she starts it up soon again!

Tell me: what workouts are you loving lately?

{gabriel}: two months

You can find his one month update here

This months biggest changes were that Gabe 'talks'/coos so much now! And when he's awake, he's so alert and smiley. Amelia wasn't super smiley, so it's wonderful to get them so easily from Gabe.

Weight/length: he hasn't been weighed since his 6 week check up and he was 10lbs 7oz then. My guess would be at least 12 lbs!

Hair/eyes: still very blonde and very blue eyes. He lost the ring of hair in the back from laying flat and being in the car seat.

blanket from dotboxed
Diapers/clothes: still wearing size 1 diapers. He is solidly wearing 3 month clothes. The Costco brand sleepers fit length wise, but are pretty big in the body. He also has a long torso and short little legs.

Loves:
  • to eat
  • being swaddled while sleeping
  • constantly moving if he's sleeping during the day
  • making noises
  • pooping!
  • being on the change table and smiling
  • when I wear him in the wrap if he's tired
  • kicking and moving his arms/legs
 Hates:
  • if he wakes up and I take too long to feed him
  • being tired. You wait two seconds too long and it's a screaming battle at times to get him to sleep

Eating: still no real pattern to his eating. I pretty much feed him whenever he seems hungry, which could be 1-4 hours. He loves to eat!

Sleeping: no real pattern here either, as I find it's hard to get him on a real schedule with Amelia and being on the go. During the day, he either sleeps in the car seat (while we go on walks/run errands), in the swing, in the bouncy chair or our arms. At night, he's still in the bassinet beside our bed for a couple more weeks until we move Amelia out of the crib. Swaddling is a must!

He slept 11-6am the other night and it was glorious! I woke up and was like did I sleep through him crying?! But Brian would have woken up for sure if he did. Most nights, I feed him before I go to bed around 10-10:30am and then he's up again anywhere between 1:30-4am. He will go back to sleep at that point until 6-7am depending on when he was up last. He settles fairly easily during the night, which I appreciate!

Scenes from the week + end

Figured it was about time I sat down and wrote a blog post! I find it so hard as in the evenings it's the last thing I want to do and don't have much time throughout the day. But, I'm trying to get better about it.

Let's rewind to last week:

Monday: it was Amelia's last day at the day home for full time, so we dropped her off in the morning. She will be going on Wednesday's only now, which I think is a good thing for the both of us. After we dropped her off, we got groceries, and I have no idea what else we did.

Tuesday: the weather wasn't the greatest that day, but we decided to venture down to Bowness Park to get out of the house. Amelia had fun at the playground and throwing rocks in the river. She even managed to ping a rock off the side of my face - such good aim on that one ;) The wading pool had opened a couple days before and of course Amelia wanted to go in when I had nothing for her, but she still had fun in her t-shirt and regular diaper (don't worry, her diaper didn't go in). We ended up taking her home in just her diaper and a swaddling blanket thanks to Gabe.

Wednesday: Amelia was at the day home, so Brian headed out with a friend for a mountain bike ride in the morning. Gabe and I didn't do much- took Harley for a walk and I did a workout.  The rest of the afternoon was spent hanging out at home and not chasing after a toddler or listening to mommy a million times ;)

Thursday: in the morning, I ventured down to East Village with the kids to go to Tara aka Top Knot Mommy's workout class with Alison and Brie. It's nice to get out of the house and have someone else kick my butt! Amelia had fun running around and eating snacks while I worked out.  We headed home after the class for Amelia's nap, and once she was up, we packed a picnic and headed back to the wading pool in Bowness since it was a gorgeous day. It was quite busy when we got there, but it cleared out a bit around dinnertime. I ran into Sarah and her kids there, which was fun to meet her in person!

Friday: struggling to remember what we did this day- I know the weather was crummy in the morning, so I made some edible finger paints that Amelia could use in the bathtub. It was a huge hit! I'm sure there was a park visit in there somewhere too.

Saturday: we went for a little adventure in the morning to the new park in Confederation Park. Amelia loved the huge slide, but I wasn't a big fan as I couldn't get her up there. Good thing Brian was with us. After the park, we made a pit stop at a mural wall for an IG picture, and then headed to MEC. There were a few meltdowns in the day as I had bribed Amelia with some fries to get the mural wall picture (do what you have to do!) and she was mad that we went to MEC first instead. Ah, it's tough being a toddler! Once we got her calmed down, we headed to McDonald's for fries and then home for a much needed nap!

Sunday: Amelia had got a gift card for the zoo for her birthday, so we finally headed to the zoo and got a membership. It wasn't too busy when we got there around 9:30am, but holy, it was insane when we were leaving! The line up was back through the blue egg and into the parking lot. Minus some more meltdowns, we had a good morning at the zoo.

Monday: after a busy weekend, we had a quiet day at home. In the morning, I had a nap with Gabe, while Brian made sprinkle pancakes for Amelia. We played outside, listened to music, took Harley for a walk, and just enjoyed the day around the house. It was actually quite nice not to be rushing anywhere or doing anything!

Tell me: how was your long weekend? What's new with you?

Catching up

Man, life has been busy lately! I just haven't had the energy or time to sit down and blog, so you are getting a big long catch up post today.

Almost two weeks ago, Gabe and I took an unexpected trip back to Ontario. My dad's wife passed away unexpectedly, so I wanted to be there for the funeral and to be with my dad. That meant buying a ticket on Sunday and leaving on Tuesday. Luckily, Amelia was still in the day home, so she was able to stay home with Brian (he was teaching in the mornings). They had fun together, and I got to spend some time with my family. Gabe did great on the flights- so much easier than traveling with a toddler!

Our plane home was a Disney plane
This weekend, we were in Edmonton for one of our nieces birthday parties. It was at a park near their house, and Amelia had fun playing in the sand with a shovel. Forget playing with the other kids ;) She did love playing with poppa and her cousins later that day though. She kept asking where the kids went (meaning her cousins). We also went to see Brian's grandma while we were in town too.

It's been hot and smoky here lately because of the forest fires in BC, but we are trying to get outside as much as we can.

I mentioned it on IG, but a couple weeks ago Brian put up lights in our backyard for me. There is a house that I walk by that had some up, and I kept mentioning it to Brian. He's a swell guy and figured it all out and hung them for me. Love them! We also got a new patio furniture set this year that has a couch and two chairs, so we are loving our backyard.

Tell me: what's new with you?

Body & mind after baby V2: one month update

I did these posts with Amelia, and I've actually gone back to read them a couple times since then. I know they aren't for everyone, so please feel free to skip them. Here are the posts with Amelia:
One month
Three months
Six months
Nine months
Twelve months

Body update

Four days post partum

12 days post partum
One month post partum
With this pregnancy, I gained around 35lbs just like I did with Amelia. I, in no way, thought that the weight would just fall off of me (it didn't with Amelia), but man is this stage so, so hard. Not only do you now have these massive breasts, you also have this saggy and soft tummy, along with wider hips that don't fit into any of your clothes. I'm trying to remember that it's only been over 4 weeks since I had Gabe, and that it will take time and effort for the weight to come off.

I'm sitting about 16lbs heavier than pre-pregnancy, which I'm sure is all in my breasts ;) I have a check up in two weeks, so once I'm cleared I will ease back into working out. As tired as I am, I am looking forward to the workouts because I actually miss it and they make me feel like me. Until then, it will be walks with Harley and bouncing a 10lb baby.

With Amelia, I had night sweats which I luckily haven't had this time! So glad for that. I also feel like my recovery went a lot quicker this time thanks to an easier delivery.

Mind update

Overall, I think I have adjusted fairly well to having two kids. If you ask me right now how it's going, I will say fairly well which is in large part to Amelia being in the day home full time and Brian only working half days for the month of July. Both of those have been huge! I will admit that I am kind of nervous to be home with both kids full time starting in September. Ask me then how I'm doing ;)

There have definitely been some tears from me and rough days (ie: yesterday when Gabe was wide awake from 4-6am and Amelia woke up at 4:45am), but I think that's normal. I still feel like I have no idea how I can be in multiple places at once (meaning both kids need me) or how I can do a lot of things while holding Gabe and helping Amelia. I need to learn to allow myself some grace and realize that I can't do everything anymore and will need help. Brian has been a huge help of course- from doing bedtime with Amelia, to making dinner, to taking Gabe so I can have time to myself. I couldn't do it without him!

Tell me: for those of you with more than one child, what was the hardest part for you? Or what do you still find the hardest? Any tips for me?
