{wedding wednesday} groomsmen outfits

This week is all about Mr.D and his groomsmen....and their socks. I have wanted the boys to wear some fun, green socks since I saw pictures like these all over the Internet:

On the weekend when my mom and I were shopping, we stopped at the Banana Republic Outlet hoping to find the perfect socks. I was looking around in the men's section, but didn't see anything. My mom told me to check the clearance section and buried underneath underwear and hats, I found the perfect pair of socks for the boys!

Here they are:

The best part was the amazing deal that I got on them. They were marked as $3.99 on sale, down from $10.50/pair. When the cashier rang them through, they came up at $2.97 each!! I think the guy thought I was crazy for being that excited over 5 pairs of socks, so I felt the need to explain why I was buying so many! In total, the socks came to $16 after taxes. I love them because they aren't too crazy and just the perfect amount of green. I think they will go perfectly with the guys black suits and green vests!

{weekend recap}

This weekend went too fast yet again :( How come the weekends that you want to go slowly never do?!

On Friday night, we picked my mom up from the airport. We were all kind of tired, so we headed home and just hung out and got caught up.

On Saturday, my mom and I went to Cross Iron Mills. I had never been before and I was quite impressed! There were a lot of stores, with some outlets mixed in. There was a huge Forever 21, which was awesome. The only time I get to go there is in Edmonton and it's always pretty messy and disorganized. After the mall, we hung out for the afternoon and watched the movie An Education. It was quite the movie to say the least. Later on, we met with Mr.D's parents for sushi. We haven't seen them for a few weeks, so it was great to also spend time with them.

On Sunday, we met Mr.D's parents again for breakfast. After breakfast Mr.D, my mom and I headed for a little day trip to Banff. It was cold and windy in Banff, which was crappy. We still had fun looking in the little shops. My mom headed home yesterday morning. It was a very quick visit, but I loved spending time with her.

Some pictures from the weekend:

{happy friday}

It's Friday! Who is excited besides me?!

This weekend my mom is coming to visit until Monday. I haven't seen her since Christmas, so I am excited! Mr.D's parents are also in town, so we will be doing a 'family' brunch on Sunday.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Strange dreams

Last night, I had a really strange dream. I tend to dream a lot the week before my period (anyone else?) and can usually remember what the dreams are about the next morning.

Well last night, my dream featured this guy:

Don't have a clue why he appeared in it because I definitely wasn't day dreaming about him yesterday!! In the dream, we were at my mom's house and all of these different guys were there too. There were some guys I went to high school with, my younger brother's friends and then "the situation". So the situation was trying to flirt and talk with me and I guess he assumed that I was "his". We were sitting talking and I raised my left hand and was like, "sorry, I am already taken." He got so mad at this and wouldn't talk to me for the rest of the dream! I woke up this morning and was like what the hell?!

Anyone else have strange dreams last night?

DIY Chalkboard Table Numbers

I mentioned this DIY wedding project last week, but was feeling under the weather so I never posted it. So, here I am posting it only a week late :)

For the table numbers, I wanted to do something that is a little different and that incorporates Mr.D's profession (any guesses what he does?). I had seen other ideas using chalkboard paint, but decided to put a little twist of my own on it.

Materials
-canvases in desired size
-chalkboard paint either in paint or spray form
-chalk

Steps:
1. To start, I bought all of my materials from the Dollarama, Michael's and Mr.D's work.
2. I took the canvases outside and sprayed them with the chalkboard paint. It took two coats and I let it dry for about 24 hours between coats. (not sure if it needs that long, but I was a little lazy! haha)

3.I printed the numbers onto cardstock and cut them out. (I can't remember what font I used)

4.Once the numbers were cut out, I traced them onto the painted canvas with the chalk. Once the number was outlined, I filled in the rest of the number. This step left me with this:

I haven't decided if I want to put the canvases into a frame or just lean them up against the vases of flowers. Thoughts?

Cost breakdown:
-canvases 2/$1
-chalkboard paint $12.50 minus 50% as I had a coupon for Michael's
-chalk free

How do you think they turned out?

Registry help!

I've been putting off doing our registry for awhile, but I've had a few questions about it lately so I can't delay any longer. This weekend, I sat down and started adding things to it and making a list of all the things still needed to be added.

For our registry, we are using My Registry. Mr.D's brother and his wife used it for their wedding & baby showers and it worked well. What Mr.D and I like about it is that you can add things for all different stores, as opposed to registering at only one store.

The thing that I am struggling with is what to add to our registry. Mr.D and I have lived together for almost two years, so we have a lot of house stuff already. The other thing is that we are hoping to buy a house sooner than later, so we don't know what we will all need for the new place. It's stressful! I know that we need to add the standard stuff like china, dishes, flatware, etc but other than that, I am having a tough time with. I don't know wedding registry etiquette very well, but are we "allowed" to put other stuff on it? Such as: gardening tools, sleeping bags, a tent? It is all stuff that we don't have, and would love to have. We are still adding all of the typical stuff, but what are your thoughts on us adding "other stuff"?

For all of you married or soon to be married ladies out there, what did you add to your registry/what are you registering for?

Did anyone watch the Life show on TLC last night? We caught it about half way through, but loved it! We own the Planet Earth dvd's, which are also awesome! We also caught the preview of Jamie Oliver's show about obesity in America. I'm excited for that one to start!

Why hello there!

I was a bad blogger last week, so it feels like I am starting out new again! After last weekend, I started feeling sick and had no energy to do anything after work. Most of the nights, all I did was make dinner/do dishes and then lounge in bed or on the couch. Thankfully I am feeling better now and have my energy back.

Since I was pretty lame last week, I don't have much to report. Sad, I know. This weekend, Mr.D and I took it pretty easy. My mom is coming into town next weekend, so we were happy to just relax all weekend. I didn't even work on a single wedding related thing...not sure if that's a bad or a good thing! Yesterday I hung out with bridesmaid T for a while. It was nice to get out and have some girl time. Mr.D and I also went to a few open houses on Saturday. We haven't been pre-approved for a mortgage yet, but we wanted to get an idea of what area in the city we want to live in. And we found a house that we absolutely loved! It made us wish that we were pre-approved and ready to buy a place :(

As I just mentioned, my mom is coming to visit next weekend and I am excited! I haven't seen her since Christmas, so it's been too long. We might do a day trip to Banff and Mr.D's parents are also in town, so pretty sure there will be a brunch with them also.

How was your weekend and last week? It must have been more exciting than mine!

Things to come

I mentioned yesterday that bridesmaid T and I were hard at work this weekend working on the invitations. I was feeling a little under the weather yesterday and last night, so I'm gonna show you a little sneak peek of part of the invitations. Fingers crossed I don't get a cold!

Tomorrow I also have a sneak peek at our table numbers. The table numbers include: chalkboard paint, canvas and of course numbers!
Hope you have a great day and aren't getting sick either!

{ fabulous weekend recap }

This weekend was fabulous! And of course it went by too fast! This weekend, my bridesmaid T came into town to hang out and help me work on a some wedding projects.

T got here on Friday night and then we went and enjoyed some sushi at our favourite place. So delicious as always! We were all pretty tired after dinner, so we headed home and I showed T all of the wedding stuff I have been working on. We also watched The Blind Side....such a great movie! Sandra Bullock plays her character so well in it.

On Saturday, we worked on wedding projects for most of the day. We folded and cut all of the outer part for the invitations, made the belly bands for the invitations and did the labels for the OOT bags. Felt so good to get a lot done! I wasn't a total slave driver...T and I went for a walk during the day too. Later that night, bridesmaid K came over and had dinner. It was great hanging out and catching up with both of the girls. We also watched Up In The Air...it was pretty good, but I liked The Blind Side better.

Yesterday, T left around lunch and then I forced Mr.D to go for a walk with me. The weather was too gorgeous to pass up! It's apparently supposed to be close to 15 degrees Celsius here this week...fingers crossed!

I also tried my dress on again for the first time since last summer and it finally does up! The last time I tried it on, the privacy piece in the back didn't go all the way across and now it does. I was pretty nervous about trying it on again...I didn't think it would fit! I also tried on the potential shoes that I showed you last week, with my dress and I love them! They are the perfect height and color.

How was your weekend?

{happy friday}

I don't know about you, but this week went really fast! And I'm not complaining one bit about it!

This weekend, bridesmaid T is coming into town to hang out and of course work on wedding related projects. We are going to: start folding invitations, work on the out of town bags, and more. Hopefully I will have something to show you next week!

I hope you have a great weekend!

The difference a year makes

Last night, I was looking through a drawer and found one of my old journals. There was an entry from almost a year ago to the date and it made me stop and think about how my life has changed in that year.

A year ago, I had just lost a job that never made me happy and that I dreaded going to each morning. I guess you could say it was a blessing in disguise as it got me out of a job that made me very unhappy. The next four to six months were very stressful as I could not find a job. It was very frustrating to land interviews only to have the potential employer tell you that you are too experienced and too educated for a position. Or on the other hand, have the potential employer tell you that you don't have enough experience even though I have a university degree.

A year ago, I was about ten pounds heavier than I am now and hated my body inside and out. I was very uncomfortable in my own skin; never letting Mr.D see me completely naked when I was changing or always hiding my body. Moving away from my family and adjusting to living with Mr.D for the first time made me not pay attention to the weight that I was steadily gaining.

Today, I have landed a job that I love. I never dread going into work; I come home happy and with energy to do things after work. I love my co-workers and my job is less than 10k from my house. Sure, there are days that stress me out, but at the end of the day, I wouldn't trade this position for anything. My job uses my university degree and challenges me on a daily basis.

Today, I have managed to lose the ten pounds that I had gained over the past year. It meant little changes on my part, but those little steps mean a better and healthier Leigh. I have made lifestyle changes that include working out at least 5 times a week and making changes to my eating habits. These changes mean that I am more confident in my own skin and now longer hide behind clothes when changing in front of Mr.D. It means that I love myself and my body even if it's not perfect.

As I look forward to the next year, I am excited to what it will bring. In five months, I will walk down the aisle to marry a man who loves me no matter what and supports me in everything I do. My job may be temporary, but I strive to be the best I can be in the position and hope that they will decide to keep me on for longer. The last year has not been perfect, but it has made me grow in so many ways.

{wedding wednesday} music

This week I wanted to talk about some of our wedding songs. We have had a few songs in mind for our first dance for a long time now! It's hard to decide on just one song when we are both people that relate music to certain people, places or times.

I will be walking down the aisle to Canon D by Pachebel. I know a lot of people choose this song, but I personally love it!

Once we are married, we will walk back down the aisle to You Are The Best Thing by Ray LaMontage:

Our first dance will either be to Warmness of the Soul by Avenged Sevenfold or Your Guardian Angel by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. I know these aren't your typical first dance songs, but both Mr.D and I love music and these songs remind us of each other while we were dating long distance.

We still have to decide on the following songs:
-when the wedding party walks down the aisle
-our entrance
-father/daughter and mother/son dance

What do you think of our song choices so far?

Need your opinions!

Yesterday I mentioned that I had found a potential pair of wedding shoes and I need your opinion on them. I really like them, the heel isn't too high and the price was right. Now, what do you think of them?

Last week, my DIY cocktail napkins were featured on DIY Bridal Files. That's exciting to me because it means that someone actually reads my blog and likes my ideas! Go here to check it out!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was gorgeous! The weather was like spring out, so here's to hoping it stays....doubtful, but one can hope!

On Friday night, Mr.D had a registration/get together night for his rugby team so we went out for a few drinks. Nothing too exciting, but it was fun to get out and see some of his team mates again.

On Saturday, Mr.D and I took advantage of the warm weather and went for a walk. But Mr.D decided to make it harder and do a few sets of walking lunges. My butt and hamstrings are feeling it today!! We also checked out an outlet mall later in the afternoon, but no luck on finding potential wedding shoes. We tried to go see Avatar that night, but it was all sold out. I think Mr.D was very disappointed!

On Sunday, I met bridesmaid K at the mall in hopes of finding her some new shoes for the wedding. She ordered a pair off a website, but unfortunately they were too big. We ended up finding a really cute pair at Le Chateau for only $30! I also found a potential pair, which I will show you later this week.

We have a few busy weekends coming up so it was nice to have a relaxing, non-busy weekend.

How was your weekend?

We have no plans for this weekend, which is awesome. The weather is supposed to be wonderful still, so I am sure we will take advantage of it.

What do you have planned for this weekend? Enjoy your weekend!

Random post of sorts

I was busy last night and don't have much to talk about so here are some random thoughts for you:

1. I got asked to play soccer last night by a guy Mr.D plays rugby with....it was fun to get out and meet some new people and to get some exercise.

2. I'm excited that today is Thursday. This week has been quiet at work, which makes for l-o-n-g days.

3. It's been close to 10 degrees Celcius here the past few days and I LOVE it. It makes me want spring to come soon. But I know we will get another dumping of snow....more than likely in May.

4. I finally found and bought brown cardstock for the invitations. Bridesmaid T is coming down next weekend, so we are going to start working on them then. Sneak peek coming soon!

What are your random thoughts for today?

{wedding wednesday} to do list

Last week, I mentioned a few projects that I wanted to get started on. As I mentioned yesterday, this past weekend I had some time to work on some of them.

Here is the update on the list.

1. Tissue paper pomanders
- I have two left to finish
-fold, fold, fold tissue paper!
Done and done! I was getting sick of folding the tissue paper! I also found shepard hooks this weekend at the Dollarama, which crosses another thing off my list. They were only $1.25 each and seem to be pretty study.

2. Welcome bags
- We bought the bags and tissue paper. Still need to get water bottles, tourism maps and gum/mints. I am also planning on making chocolate chip cookies the week before the wedding
-welcome notes
-buy labels for the bags
I bought the labels last week. We are going to pick up the tourism maps the next time we go to Edmonton.

3. Order paper and envelopes for the invitations
-still looking for a good price with shipping to Canada....so frustrating!
I found envelopes that were relatively cheap to ship from Envelope Mall. I bought ivory cardstock from Staples and am buying the chocolate brown cardstock tomorrow night from a scrapbook store.

4. Guest Book
- design the cards for people to sign
-buy paper to make the cards
I will be using the ivory cardstock I bought for the invitations as it was a 250 sheet package. Still need to design the cards.

Hope you are having a great day!

DIY Cocktail Napkins

This weekend, I was busy working on wedding related projects. The first project that I want to show you is our customized cocktail napkins.

Materials
-napkins in your choice of colour
-stamp ( I used a set from American Crafts that was wedding related)
-ink
-embossing powder
-heat tool or iron

Steps
1. Take the stamp of your choice and put ink on it from the ink pad.
2. Take the inked stamp and push it evenly onto your napkin.
3. While the ink is still wet on the napkin, sprinkle the embossing powder over the ink and ensure all parts are covered.
4. Either hold the napkin to your iron or put the heating tool over the stamped image until the edges become raised.

The finished product:

Cost
-Set of clear stamps: $10
-3 sets of 50 napkins: $6.30
-ink pad: $6
-embossing powder: ~$4 ( I also used it for other projects)
Total: $26.30

Note: I bought the stamps and ink pad from a lady on Kijiji, which saved me about $11.

It was a simple and quick project that I think will add to the wedding.

How do you think they turned out?

PS- Why oh why did Jake pick Vienna?!?

Weekend Recap

Another weekend has come and gone by too fast! This weekend was gorgeous here though...it was 6C and felt like spring! Makes me wish that winter was over already, but sadly we still have a few months.

Friday night, Mr.D and I went out for sushi to our favourite little place...it has about 10 tables, but is so delicious! We were both really tired that night, so we just hung out and watched tv.

On Saturday, Mr.D went skiing with some co-workers so I had the whole day to myself! It was fabulous! Not that I don't love spending time with Mr.D, but some times it's nice to have a little time to myself. I was up early and went to check out a craft sale that was disappointing. I also wen to Michael's, Dollarama and a scrapbooking store. I worked on a few wedding related projects, which I will show you later this week.

Yesterday, we did lots of cleaning! It felt like spring, so I guess you could say it was a little spring cleaning? We also watched Canada beat the United States in the hockey game...it was quite the game!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting?
