{happy friday}

Wooo happy Friday everyone! So excited that this weekend is a long weekend. I have a lot to get done on my wedding to do list.

Yesterday at work, my co-workers threw me a surprise lunch for the wedding. It was definitely really nice of them! Everyone brought in food, and my boss even drove down for it (she works out of our provincial office). They spoiled Brian and I with prepaid Visa cards, which was definitely really nice of them.

On a random note, on Wednesday night Mr.D and I went to Canadian Tire and bought me a bike! I've wanted one for over a year, and finally a sale was on and I was able to find one that fit my short body. I've gone for a ride the past two nights and love having it so far!

Here she is:

The bike isn't top of the line or super expensive, but it works for me.

Hope you have a great weekend!

{home tour tuesday}

I really don't know where my brain was on Tuesday, but I totally forgot to do {home tour tuesday}! I blame it on the lack of sleep from this weekend!

This week is about our basement. One of the criteria that we had when we were looking at houses was that it had a finished basement. In our old place, we were on the top floor of a duplex, so we never had storage or a place to lounge out.

The view when you come down the stairs. To the first right is the electrical room, the next right is the bathroom and then straight ahead is our office

This is what you see when you come down the stairs and look left. The door way in the back is a storage room

This is the office. It's a little messy with boxes still, but we are working on it still. We also call this the "british bedroom" because it's really narrow. Don't mind the paint colours, they were like that when we moved in and we haven't done anything to it yet.

Another view towards the doorway from the office

Mr.D's bathroom as we call it. He insists on using it so it gets used

The other side of the living room. This is looking left from the picture with the storage room doorway.

Another view. This couch is so comfy!

Another view. Don't mind Mr.D's video game on the TV in the background. He wouldn't stay in the pictures, haha.
Hope you have a great day!

{wedding wednesday} Showered with love- part two

Yesterday, I mentioned that I didn't have any pictures yet from this past weekend to show you, as I didn't take my camera out once! Luckily, my mom posted a few pictures, so I'll be able to recap my second bridal shower.

On Sunday, Mr.D's mom threw me a shower for their side of the family. Mr.D and I were definitely spoiled again by our family! There were about 25ish women that came and it was great to catch up with some family and friends that I hadn't seen in a while. Mr.D's mom and my SIL decided to only play one game and not embarrass me, so I was quite happy about that! My SIL asked Mr. D a bunch of questions about himself and us before the shower, so everyone had to try and answer the questions. I won't lie, I didn't get anywhere near perfect!

Mr.D and I before the shower

Myself and friends. Bridesmaid T is on the end

Another wonderful ribbon/bow hat! A shower just can't be complete without one

My MIL, myself and my mom. My mom and I don't look alike at all! Haha

This is from my stagette night. The wonderful shirt that bridesmaid T made for me to wear. I promise Mr.D doesn't always look like that!!
I am still waiting on more pictures from my SIL, so I will post those as soon as I get them. It's crazy that there are only 2 more {wedding wednesdays} left until the wedding! It's getting so close!

{weekend recap}

This weekend was busy, busy, busy! My body is definitely feeling it today. I even managed to convince Mr.D to drive part of the 3 hour drive home and I had a delightful hour nap...it was wonderful!

On Friday night after work, Mr.D and I drove up to his hometown. My mom flew into his hometown, so Mr.D's mom was nice and picked up my mom from the airport. We didn't do much that night, just hung out and caught up with our moms.

On Saturday, we went to the market that is near Whyte Ave, which is a funky street that has restaurants, bars, shops, etc. We also stopped in at Daddeo's, which is a New Orleans style restaurant. They have the best sweet potato fries! Later that night, we met up with one of my bridesmaids and a couple of friends for fondue. I had never been before and it was so delicious and so much fun! I would definitely go back just for the cheese and chocolate fondue. The funniest part was that I ordered a drink and the waitress asked me for my i.d. but no one else's. We all laughed pretty hard about that! After dinner, we went back to bridesmaid T's condo for some games and drinks. For the one game, there were a bunch of different underwear wrapped up in bags, and I had to guess who brought each pair...I sucked at that game! After the drinks and games, we went to a bar that has dueling pianos. It was kind of disappointing because they only played three songs on the piano, but we still had a great time! I definitely was not as drunk as Mr.D was on his stag, haha!

On Sunday, my mother in law and sister in law threw me a bridal shower. I don't have any pictures from either Saturday night or Sunday, so I am going to wait to do a full recap until I get them. It's so much better with pictures!

Yesterday, we drove my mom to the airport bright and early. I was sad that she had to go home already, but she will be back in about two weeks for the wedding. So excited!

Hope you had a great weekend!

This and that

I won't lie, I really had nothing to post about today. Please tell me that you've had days like that, but feel bad about not blogging. But really I shouldn't feel bad about not blogging because this is my blog after all, right?

So, since I had no ideas for a post, it is going to be in bullet format.

  • This weekend is my bachorelette party and also a shower for Mr.D's side of the family. My bridesmaid that is planning Saturday night said that she has an outfit planned for me...I might be nervous to see this said outfit!
  • My mom is flying in for the weekend and I am excited to see her again!
  • I started working on my vows this week and everytime I read the draft that I wrote, I cry. I really don't know how I will get through it on the wedding day
  • Our bedroom suite was finally (after two months!) delivered yesterday. It looks really different having dressers and a bed frame instead of just our mattress on the ground. I'll show in you in a few weeks on {home tour tuesday}
  • I love finding new blogs. Anyone have any awesome blogs to pass along?

Hope you have a great day!

{wedding wednesday}

Back in February, I did a post about the bridal party survival kits that I wanted to put together for my bridesmaids. This {wedding wednesday} is about those kits.

I decided that I wasn't happy with the original bags that I had all of the survival kit items in, so I was on the hunt for some cute make up bags that the girls could use again in the future. I lucked out and found three bags at Winners for $9 each. I also decided that the kits needed 'more', so I bought each of the girls favorite mascara and lip gloss. I slyly asked them to suggest their favorite because I was looking for a new one for the wedding...so sneaky I am!

The bags. Winners only had two of the same, so I decided to get a different color for my MOH.

The contents of the bridal party survival kits. In the brown package are bobby pins.

What else do you think I should add? I feel like I want to put something else in there, but not exactly sure what. I am also paying for their make up to be done on the wedding day.

Ps- 24 days until the wedding!!

{home tour tuesday}

This {home tour tuesday} is all about the kitchen. When Mr.D and I were looking for houses, the biggest thing on our list was a large kitchen so that both of us could be in the kitchen at the same time. Our last place wasn't tiny, but it seemed like we were always in each other's way.

The view from our living room. I love the cupboard and counter space!

The view from the dining room. The door way to the left of the stairs leads to the front door

The best part of the kitchen is the walk through pantry! It's a little messy, so don't judge too hard

If you walk through the pantry, it takes you to the laundry room and to the garage. The door you can see in the back of the picture leads to the garage

{weekend recap}

Even though we had zero plans for this weekend, it was fabulous! The weather was finally nice, got some of my to-do list done, it couldn't have been better! Well maybe if it didn't have to end...

On Friday night, Mr.D and I went to Costco to pick up a BBQ that was on sale. Exciting stuff I know! We also went out for dinner and then decided at 9pm to start putting the barbecue together...smart idea? Probably not, but we survived without killing each other.

On Saturday, one of Mr.D's friends and his girlfriend came into town because they were going to a wedding that night. Mr.D had a rugby game so I took his friend and girlfriend to the mall. Later in the afternoon we dropped them off at the wedding and Mr.D and I ran some errand. We didn't do much that night, which was absolutely perfect! We ended up picking them up from the wedding which was hilarious because Mr.D's friend was really drunk and saying hilarious stuff! So glad it was him with the hangover this morning and not me!

Sunday, I met up with a friend that I used to work with in Ontario. She was in town for the Stampede. It was awesome to sit and catch up with her because I hadn't seen her in a so long! After I met up with my friend, I ran some more errands for wedding related stuff. I am almost finished getting stuff for the girls 'bridal party survival kits' so hopefully they like them!

On a random note, has anyone tried the salad dressing and cooking sauce combinations that you can buy by Kraft? Last weekend at my mom's house, she made a salad with the toasted sesame and it was so delicious! I definitely recommend you trying it!

Hope you had a great weekend!

{happy friday}

Yesterday I had one of those days that brought all of the stress of planning a wedding to a boiling point. I have been pretty good through the whole process, but yesterday it could not be stopped. I was in tears in the morning, so I ended up taking the afternoon off to relax. It was the best idea ever! I ended up putting on pj's and lounging all day. Had a delightful nap and talked to one of my bridesmaids to get things worked out.

So, today is Friday and that means one more work day and then it's the weekend! We don't have much planned this weekend. One of Mr.D's friends is coming to stay the night on Saturday as they are going to a wedding in town. Other than that, I have a couple errands to run to pick up a few things for the wedding. I plan on sleeping in and enjoying the weekend!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Have you ever had one of those days were you can't stop crying because of stress? Please tell me it's not only me!

Stag and Doe

Warning: this post is picture heavy again!

On Saturday night, my mom planned a stag & doe for Mr.D and I when we were in Ontario. I know that stag & doe's are not common outside of Ontario, so I thought a little explanation might help you understand. Wikipedia explains it as:

In Canada, a stag and doe, or buck and doe, is a wedding tradition popular in Southern Ontario. The event is usually organized by the bridal party, but in some circumstances may also be held by the bride and groom before they are married, similar to a 'Jack & Jill.' It acts as a fundraiser for the wedding. Guests purchase entrance tickets and are entertained by draws, food and drink, music and fun and games. It is not a combined bachelor party and bachelorette party, or engagement party, as the primary focus is to raise money for the engaged couple.

My mom planned a bunch of games for the night. They included: a toonie toss, balloons, hola hoop toss, hammer the nail, etc. I have some of the games in pictures, so I will explain them as I go.

The first game was hammer the nail. Basically you were trying to hammer the nail in the least amount of hits into the board. Let's just say that I didn't win!

My younger brother's friend attempting to win

The second game was the hola hoop toss. For $2, you got to try and toss five rings over Mr.D's head. Luckily he had a helmet on! Whoever got the most rings over his head won a gift certificate to a restaurant or a bucket of beer.

I wasn't doing very well, so someone gave me a chair while Mr.D came closer and let me put one around his head

An action shot of Mr.D

The toonie toss was for a bottle of alcohol. You paid $2 each toss and the goal was to get it as close to the bottle as possible. It was hilarious to watch how competitive people got for a bottle of alcohol!

Mr.D and I

My older and younger brother announcing one of the games (the cowboy hat was a decoration...he doesn't actually own that!)

The funniest part of the night of the "mockormony" that my mom came up. Neither of us had no clue what was about to happen until my mom made Mr. D stand at the front and put a "veil" on me. My mom had a friend be the priest and lead our "mock ceremony". It was a really funny ceremony that talked about hang overs, for worse, etc.

My dad walking me down the "aisle". I was laughing so hard at this point!

Mr.D and I during the "ceremony"

Our first kiss as "husband and wife"

The most important part of the night...the bouquet toss! I think I win for best expression of the night.

Overall, it was a fabulous night! Lots of family and friends came out and supported us. We were happy to catch up with family and friends that won't be able to make it to the wedding.

{wedding wednesday} Showered with love

This weekend when I was home in Ontario, two of my mom's good friends threw me a bridal shower on Sunday. I did not expect one to be thrown for me, so it was greatly appreciated! I'll warn you now, this post might be picture heavy!

We played a few games, one of which I will explain with some pictures below. The first game was about wedding related facts from all around the world. Let's just say that I didn't win that one! The second game included me wearing an apron which was covered in kitchen utensils. I walked into the room and the ladies had about 5 minutes to name and write down as many utensils and gadgets as possible. My mom's friend who threw me the shower is a really good cook, so there were a few utensils that I had no clue what they were! The third game was the toilet paper dress. It was quite hilarious to see what some of the ladies came up with!

This was the second game that we played. Me modeling the apron with all of the gadgets on it

The beautiful apron again

The toilet paper dress game. From left to right: my dad's wife, my older brother's girlfriend, my mom's friend and my friend from elementary school. They are all so beautiful that it was hard to choose the winner!

The awesome cupcakes that had cowboy hats on them. So creative!

Some of the amazing food!

I was definitely showered with love this weekend and am so appreciative of my family and friend's generosity!

Ps- one month today I will be marrying Mr.D!!!

{home tour tuesday}

** Edited to add more pictures of the living room and dining room**

Sorry for not having posted for the last two days...we just got back last night from our busy weekend in Ontario and there wasn't quite enough time in the day to fit in a blog post. I have lots of pictures from the weekend, so I think I will do it in a couple of posts. It was a great weekend full of sunshine, family, and fun!

This {home tour tuesday} is about the living room and dining room. I apologize ahead of time about the quality of the pictures....we got home when it was dark last night and I realized that I hadn't taken any pictures yet.

The view from our hallway

A dark picture (sorry!) of the left side of the living room

Blogger was not wanting to upload the rest of my pictures last night, so I will update the post with more pictures when I get home from work tomorrow.

The dining room. Nothing special, but works for us right now. Also please ignore the boxes :)

I love summer!

Summer in Alberta is really short, so you have to make the most of it while it's here!

Last night, we invited three guys and their wives to join us at Bowness Park for a fire. In the park they have fire pits that anyone can use, so we set up around there and barbecued some sausages and hung out. The weather was actually nice for once, minus the million mosquitoes that were around! We also ended up throwing the frisbee around as one of the guys plays ultimate frisbee and was trying to teach all of us. It was a great night!

The one thing that I miss about Ontario is being an hour from the beach. Nothing compares to hanging out by the water all day reading books and just relaxing. I don't miss the humidity of Ontario though! They are also in the middle of heat wave right now...hopefully it sticks around for us this weekend.

What is your favorite part of summer?

{wedding wednesday}

Last week I showed you a preview of something that made it's way into our house and I promised I would fill you in. So, this {wedding wednesday} that's exactly what I am going to talk about today.

First, to fully explain why we bought a popcorn machine, you should know that Mr.D and I both LOVE movie theatre popcorn. Secondly, you should know that we are not having a wedding cake or favors at our wedding.

Instead of a candy buffet which is wildly popular in the wedding world right now, we decided to have a popcorn buffet. Sure, it's not the cheapest to buy a popcorn machine, but believe me, we will definitely get a lot of use out of it after the wedding!

Last week, we went to Winners and found 5 vases. Two tall, two medium and one small....just what I had in mind. The plan is to have 4 flavors....theatre butter, white cheddar, dill pickle and salt & vinegar.

The popcorn machine in all of it's glory!

The vases filled with popcorn before we ate all of it!

The vases with the signs in front of them

All of the signs lined up

I forgot to take a picture of the bags that I decorated for people to fill up with popcorn. I promise to show you next week! I also still plan to wrap either brown or green ribbon around the vases, but haven't quite decided on what color yet.

How do you think it turned out? Would you love to snack on popcorn at a wedding?
