{what i’m loving}

This week, I am linking up with Jamie's {what i’m loving} Wednesday.

WILW

This week, I am loving:

{one} That the new season of Sons of Anarchy starts really soon! Love, love, love this show and can’t wait to see what happens this season. If you haven’t watched it, do it!

{two} Although I am not loving the rainy weather, it made for a nice run last night. It was lightly misting and overcast, which was perfect running weather.

{three} That this weekend is a long weekend (love me a sleep in day!) and that next week my Friday’s off start again. It’s so nice to have every third Friday off to get stuff done around the house or just to enjoy the day.

{four} That this cute face is always excited when I come home Smile Can you believe that his 1st birthday is next week already?!

Thoughts

Last week was a great training week. My runs during my lunch hour were a little hot, but I am not complaining because it’s supposed to be rainy and 12C today. Not fun mother nature! My long run wasn’t the greatest because of the heat and the fact that I haven’t run over 10k in a while, but I got it done.

How was your training week?

{weekend recap}

Oh Monday, why do you have to come so quickly? I am excited that next Monday is a long weekend…that makes me happy Smile

{friday} On Friday night, we went to a friend’s house for a BBQ. There were about 10 people there and it was a fun night. We sat catching up with everyone and with two of our friends as they just got back from a seven week trip to Asia.

{saturday} It was a gorgeous morning, so we took Harley for a walk down in the coulee by our house. He loves it so much as he can just run free and jumps over the creek. After the walk, we went to MEC and I found the winter running tights I was looking for. Not looking forward to actually having to wear them, but I would rather get them now while they still have them. After that, we took Mr.D’s broken bike into the store (sad face for him as they couldn’t fix it) and then headed home. The rest of the day was hanging out and watching Water for Elephants.

{sunday} I went for a long run of 13K and it was hot! I am not complaining because I hate winter, but I was sweating like a beast by the end. After my run, I did some cleaning up around the house and we got groceries. It was another gorgeous day, so we spent a lot of the day hanging out in the backyard.

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

{happy friday}

Happy Friday everyone! I know I am glad that it's finally here, how about you?

This weekend, we don't actually have much planned. A BBQ with friends tonight, a long run for me either Saturday or Sunday and maybe shopping for some winter running tights for me. Yes, I said winter. Yuck. I waited too long to find them last year, and the ones I wanted were sold out, so I am hoping to get them early this year. Fingers crossed the snow stays away for a long time!

On a random note, has anyone been watching this season of True Blood? I just watched last week's episode last night and I hate this season. The things they have thought up to bring into the show are ridiculous! I've loved the other seasons, but this one has killed the show for me. Thoughts?

What do you have planned for the weekend? Whatever it is, I hope you have a great weekend!

Confessions

This post has been brewing in my little noggin for a while, and I have a quick moment at work, so I thought I would lay my confessions out for the blogging world to see.

Here are my confessions..
  • I am deathly scared of someone breaking into my house when I am alone. Too many episodes of America's Most Wanted when I was younger. Oh and yes, we do have an alarm system. Totally irrelevant.
  • I sometimes feel like a 1950's housewife.
  • I thrive on routine. Spur of the moment plans make my heart race.
  • I unintentionally gave up drinking. I will still have a drink here and there, but barely drink anymore
  • I was the pickiest eater growing up. I would only eat chicken, KD and Diet Coke.
  • I find it hard to make girl friends. So I have a small number of close girl friends.
  • I have the humour of a 12 year old boy. See:

  • I sometimes wish I was taller...but then again I like being small
  • I hate public speaking. Even for our wedding speech, Mr.D said everything
What are your confessions for today?

{what i’m loving}

I haven’t linked up with Jamie's {what i’m loving} Wednesday for a while, so I thought I would today Smile

WILW

This week, I am loving:

{one} This saying:
295976_10150776855175077_528555076_20434381_6017555_n
It’s so, so true!

{two} That there are only 45 days until the Victoria half marathon! That also means I get to see and finally meet some of these lovely ladies: Amber, Lisa and Lauren. It’s going to be a busy but fun weekend Smile

{three} That today is Wednesday which means one day closer to the weekend Smile

{four} The one thing that I am NOT loving this week is that the nights are getting so much shorter. I am not ready for winter and the cold that comes with it. It being almost dark when I get out of work is not fun.

What are you loving this week?

Race report & Training Tuesday

As I mentioned yesterday, I ran the 10k event for the Intact Canadian Derby Edmonton, which took place of course in Edmonton. It was advertised as a flat and fast course and that it was!

Mr.D and I went to pick up our race packages on Saturday morning and there were no lines compared to the half I ran in May. I had waited in the car with Harley when Mr.D ran in and he was in and out in less than 15 minutes! We got to the race site just after 6pm as we weren’t sure how much parking there would be. Luckily, it was not busy at all and didn’t have a problem finding a spot. The course was an out and back going along the top of the river valley, which meant beautiful views. The race also didn’t start until 7pm, which was kind of strange, but fun at the same time.

I had a great race where it just felt like my legs were like go, go, go! My second kilometer was a 4:57, which is super duper fast for me! After that, I made sure to slow it down so my legs would last the 10km’s. My final chip time was 52:46, which was over a minute off my last 10k! So happy as I wasn’t expecting it SmileIMG_0525

Overall, it was a great race and fun experience!

Thoughts

This week was so much better than last week! My runs actually went well and was able to maintain my pace. Thank goodness! Best run of the week was the 10k race, as it was fun and I got a medal at the end Smile

{weekend recap}

I was a bad blogger this weekend and took ZERO pictures. None at the baby shower, none at the wedding shower and none at my race. I fail!

As busy as this weekend was, it was a lot of fun! Friday night was spent driving to Mr.D's hometown which is three hours away. We caught up with his parents when we arrived and that's all.

Saturday morning included some running around and then a baby shower for my sister in law sister. So many pink things at the shower, but baby clothes are so cute! I can't wait to meet her little girl :) After the shower, I grabbed some quick dinner and then it was time for my 10k race. Mr.D was signed up to run it as well, but he has been having knee troubles lately, so he decided to take it easy. The run didn't start until 7pm, but it was still hot out there! Overall, it was a good race and I will do a full report tomorrow :)

Sunday morning was spent catching up with our friends and their two boys. Holy man, are boys ever busy! In the afternoon, I went to a wedding shower for my friend. It was nice as I was able to catch up with some friends I don't see often. After the shower, we had a family dinner and then made the long drive back home.

I promise I will remember to take some pictures next time!

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

{happy friday}

Returning to work yesterday was ROUGH! I was so not ready to go back, but thankfully it is only for two days. And now it’s the weekend Smile

This weekend, we are:

  • going to a baby shower
  • going to a wedding shower
  • running a 10k on Saturday night! Maybe Mr.D too depending on how his knee feels

On a random note, thought I would show you a few pictures from my iphone. I have so many random pictures on there!

IMG_0520
I often find Harley in our upstairs spare room just staring out the window. It’s so cute!

IMG_0521
I found my running shoes on sale the other day because they were the last model. I don’t mind having the same colour again if it saves me $40! New running shoes are like little clouds for your feet Smile

IMG_0522IMG_0524
We had a crazy hail storm last night…it looked like it had snowed in August!

What do you have planned for your weekend? Hope you have a great one!

The etiquette of thank you cards

thank-you-card

I’ve had a few conversations with different friends over the last little while in regards to thank you cards. From these conversations, I have noticed that there are two very different thoughts on the matter. One being a thank you card is always needed and the other is that it’s not needed as people do not want them and they know that you are thankful for the present/gesture/action. I personally think that a thank you card is always required and here is why.

If someone takes the time out of their day to shop for a present for you and spend money on that present, a card is a way of saying thank you for taking the time and spending the money. It’s about putting in a little effort when someone else put in effort for yourself and showing your gratitude. People do not have to buy you a present for your shower, but they choose to. It only takes a few minutes to write out a card to say thank you, and it could mean a lot to that person to know that you loved their present.

A friend made the argument that people do not want thank you cards as they just end up in the garbage. I personally still have many thank you cards that I have received over the years. Maybe that’s a little hoarder-ish of myself, but it was nice to know that they enjoyed the present whether hand made or store bought.

I have been to a couple wedding showers and weddings where I travelled for the event in combination with bringing a gift and never received a thank you card. I will admit it surprised me because time and effort on my part was put in for that person/friend and they couldn’t take a few minutes to say thank you. Yes, they did say a general thank you to everyone at the event, but it is not the same in my mind. Even if the card is sent many months after the event, it will not go unforgotten. A thank you card in the mail is better than a bill any day!

What are your thoughts on thank you cards? Do you think that they should be sent or do you think it really doesn’t matter? I am interested to see what others think of the topic!

Training Tuesday

I haven’t done an update on my training for a while, so I thought I would today.

Week Six

Swimming: 0
Biking: ~7 (mountain biking)

Thoughts

All of my runs last week sucked with a capital S. I blame it on the fact that I was about to get my period which meant I was tired physically and could not get into my runs. It was so frustrating! That combined with the heat has meant that I have slowed down a lot, but I am hoping once it cools off, the speed will pick up again.

Blogging is an amazing thing. Yesterday, I opened my front door and found a package from the fabulous Chrissi. I had commented on one of her posts about the dry shampoo spray and she offered to send me some. She also included a cute card and some fabulous smelling hand cream.

Thank you again Chrissi! Smile

{weekend recap}

Well hello Monday, you came around quickly again. But I am not complaining because I am off until Thursday, so I am savouring my last few days of holidays.

This weekend, we:

  • went to Kananaskis on Saturday morning to go mountain biking. Mr.D really enjoys it, so I thought I would give it a whirl. Let’s just say it didn’t end up so well for me. There were a few spills, swear words and tears left on the trail, but at least I tried. The views were definitely worth it though!

    Overlooking the golf course
    IMG_0497IMG_0498IMG_0499IMG_0500
  • early anniversary dinners. We went to NOtaBLE and it was fantastic! I had been there once before and it definitely did not disappoint. After dinner, we went to DQ to spilt a blizzard. Perfect way to end our night Smile
    IMG_0507
    Yes, the only picture we took was in our car
  • Finished making the bibs for the baby shower present for next weekend. I hope she likes them!
    IMG_0504
  • A trip to the dog park with Harley, so he could run and play in the river. He loves it!

How was your weekend? What were you up to?

One year ago…

Mr.D and I spent the morning getting ‘pretty’ with our close friends…

Mr.D,

I am not too sure where the last year has gone, but I love you more and more everyday. You are a wonderful husband, friend, puppy daddy and I couldn’t ask for a better man to have by my side. You are always encouraging and supporting me, and I thank you for that. I love you and can’t wait to spend many more years together creating new memories!

Love,

Leigh

Random at it’s finest

My brain is still on vacation mode, so I was struggling to come up with a post idea for today. So you are getting a bunch of random thoughts, you can thank me later Smile

  • A few months (yes months) ago, the medicine cabinet mirror fell off in our spare bathroom and left a big hole in the wall. I finally got around to fixing the hole and painting the bathroom this week. Now I just can’t decide what shower curtain I should put up. Opinion?
    IMG_0476IMG_0477IMG_0480IMG_0481
  • I bought a bunch of fabric yesterday to make some baby bibs for the baby shower I have in a couple weekends. Wish me luck!
  • I mentioned this on Twitter, but I have a bridal shower the same weekend and the theme is date night. I have no ideas for a present. Do you have any fun ideas?
  • Apparently being on vacation means I can’t make any decisions, so please help me Smile
  • I love spending time this cutie:
    IMG_0457
  • Our one year wedding anniversary is this weekend. I can’t believe that we have been married for almost a year already!
