Highlights of the weekend

This weekend flew by! If only the work week went by like that too.

Let's see what we were up to this weekend:
  • on Friday night, Erica and I went to the package pick up for the Calgary Police half marathon. They were having a mother of a sale, but I only picked up two pairs of socks.
  • on Saturday, I met up with Alison at Cross Iron Mills to do some shopping. I didn't have much luck, but found a couple things.
  • after shopping, I headed home and took Harley for a walk. It was a gorgeous day out, but so dang windy!
  • Sunday morning I was up bright and early to run the Calgary Police half marathon. Full report coming later this week :)
  • the rest of Sunday was spent napping and taking Harley for a walk
Gah, my pictures wouldn't upload last night, so this is going to be lame post with no pictures.

  • finishing a great book and starting another good one
  • the weather! (about time Alberta!)
We actually have lots of stuff going on this weekend. Package pick up tonight with Erica, shopping with Alison tomorrow, half marathon #8 on Sunday! Looking forward to all of it.

Three Things Thursday

My blogging mojo is currently lacking and not sure why. Might have to do with being busy at work and the nice weather that makes me not want to sit down at the computer. Oh well, onwards and upwards :)

My three random thoughts for this fine Thursday:

{one} This time in two weeks I will be in Ireland!! So excited, but so nervous because I haven't even thought about packing yet. Hoping to pick up some stuff to take with me this weekend when Alison and I go shopping.

{two} the weather is finally starting to look up here! 16C today, 18C on Friday and 16C on Saturday. Oh and just a lovely 5C on Sunday for my half marathon. Worst luck ever!

{three} I was spoiled by my work and colleagues this week for administrative assistant week. I received two beautiful bouquets of flowers and two awesome lunches!

Tell me: something random or exciting about your week!

Highlights of the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! The weather was the shits here this weekend....I would love spring to come and visit anytime. Do you hear that mother nature?!

This weekend, we:

  • went to see the movie The Place Beyond The Pines. I am not sure what I was expecting from this movie, but it was definitely different. Not terrible, but just different.
  • Erica and I ran 32kms on Sunday and it went really well! We tried to go on Saturday morning, but the wind was insane (close to 40km/h!!), so we quickly bailed on that.
  • Harley and I shared lots of hugs, haha. He's hilarious when he does it and just tries to lick the shit out of your face.
  • we went to see a travel agent on Saturday afternoon...fingers crossed that we figured some stuff out for our trip.
  • went to a friend's house on Saturday night for her birthday. It was a casual and laid back night, which was nice. Oh and I was home and in bed by 10pm, haha.
Minus the weather being crappy, it was a great weekend.

Travel help needed! {part two}

A couple weeks ago, I asked for your help with my upcoming trip to Ireland. Well, I need your help again. We finally booked our plane tickets to London this week, so we will be heading there in August. Besides the dates that we are flying in and out, we don't have anything else planned. This is where my fabulous readers come in.

We are hoping to do see: Wales, London, Paris, Italy and Spain while we are there for three weeks. What are the must see and do things? We are hoping to stay in b&b's while we are there to help cut down on costs. Any b&b's that you can recommend?

The questions we have:

1. What's the easiest/cheapest way to get from London to Paris?
2. What's the easiest/cheapest way to get from Italy to Spain (or vice versa)
3. Any recommendations of places to stay outside of Paris?
4. What is a good website to book flights between Italy and Spain?
5. Any websites or blogs that you can recommend?

I'd love to hear any ideas or information that you have. This trip has been in the works for almost three years, so I am excited but overwhelmed at planning everything!

Training Tuesday

After seeing the news about Boston yesterday, I just couldn't tear myself away from my computer screen at work. So horrible that people would do that to innocent people. Makes me so sad. Thoughts are definitely with those who were affected by it.

But, training must go on. With all of the snow and being out of town for three days, my training wasn't too bad.

Monday 4/8
  • 4.0km walk
  • CrossFit workout
Tuesday 4/9
  • 7.3km run {5:31/km avg pace} with Harley
Wednesday 4/10

Friday 4/12

  • 3.2km walk
Saturday 4/13
  • rest
Sunday 4/14

Highlights of the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! I didn't meant to not blog at the end of last week, but I couldn't get the wireless internet working at the hotel. Oh well, it was nice to have a break from the internet and feeling like I had to blog.

On Wednesday of last week, I drove to Banff in the afternoon as my conference started that night and went until Saturday morning. It was nice to be in Banff and they gave us Friday off to explore and sight see. A couple pictures:

The Fairmont Banff Springs

Mr.D came out for the night on Friday, so we went out for dinner and then just hung out. The conference started at 8am on Saturday, so I was up early. After the conference ended, we drove home on Saturday afternoon luckily before the snow storm hit. Oh yeah, we got around 10-15cms of snow this weekend. Does anyone know where spring is?!

Hm, what else were we up to? We made a quick trip to the mall on Saturday night, read a book, took a nap and went out for dinner with friends. I was supposed to run 20kms on Sunday, but it was way too snowy to do so! Erica and I decided to head to the YMCA and we ran 10kms on the treadmill instead. Not quite enough, but I couldn't handle anymore.

Tell me: how was your weekend? Did you get hit with the snow storm too?

What I'm Loving

I haven't joined in with What I'm Loving Wednesday for a while, so I figured why not today?

This week, I am loving:
  • the weather is starting to look up again! It was windy, but super sunny yesterday
  • that I am off today for a course until Saturday for work. Well, that's not super exciting, but the best part is that it's in Banff at the Fairmont hotel. I've never been to the Fairmont, so excited to be able to stay there for a couple nights!
  • that my long run for this week is only 21kms! Looking forward to the break in kilometers before attacking 32kms again next weekend {and yes I am aware it's not JUST 21kms, but it's a big difference from 32kms}
  • this isn't a happy thing, but I saw on Twitter last night that Kirsten {who used to blog, but closed her blog down} is pregnant and was diagnosed with breast cancer. I can't imagine what she is going through right now. I don't pray, but sending lots of positive thoughts her way. You can find her new blog here.
Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Training Tuesday

Another week of marathon training is done! I think the word to describe training this week is tiring/tired. All of those kilometers are catching up to me and I am starting to feel a cold coming on. Fingers crossed that some rest and lots of water will mean it turns into nothing.

Monday 4/1
  • 7.3km run {5:25/km avg pace} with Harley
  • Nike training club ab burner
Tuesday 4/2
  • 4.3km walk with Harley
  • CrossFit workout
Wednesday 4/3
  • I had to run this night, but didn't feel like just running, so I made up a workout. It went like this:
 1 mile run
Half of deck of cards workout with two suits {did pushups and situps}
1 mile run
Half of deck of cards workout
1 mile run

Thursday 4/4
  • 4.3km walk with Harley
Friday 4/5
  • 4.0km walk with Harley
Saturday 4/6

  • 32.0 km run {5:58/km avg pace}. I wasn't sure how this run was going to go as I was doing it solo, but glad I was able to get it done. I had some ankle and knee pain, but it went away with a bit of stretching. I was trying to go slower for this run to see how I would feel at the end, and I managed to run my last kilometer in 5:24. Felt pretty good about that!
Sunday 4/7
  • 4.4km walk with Harley
Totals

Running: 44.0kms
Walking: 17.0kms

Highlights of the weekend

Boo Monday! I'd like to say that our weekend was filled with partying, drinking and just craziness, but that is definitely not how we roll around here. I'll be honest, I was never a big party animal even in university and I am okay with that :)

1. Christmas came early for us on Friday! We bought ourselves a Dyson animal vacuum. We've been borrowing a Dyson from our BIL/SIL while they've been living in NYC, but since they are back soon, we decided to get our own. If anyone is wondering, they are currently on sale this week :)

2. The snow started on Saturday night and hasn't stopped yet (well, not when I was writing this post at least). So over winter.

3. I read a lot of books this weekend and have no shame about it {find the books here, here, and here}

4. My running partner and friend was gone this weekend, so it was 32 solo kilometers for me. The weather wasn't the greatest, but I got it done.

Other than that, Alison and I were going to go shopping yesterday, but with the crappy weather we decided to call it a pj day and reschedule for another weekend. Ooh, and on Friday night, we went and tried Smashburger for the first time. I am never one to crave a burger, but damn was it ever good!

Tell me: how was your weekend? What were you up to?

Fabulous Friday

Happy Friday everyone! I was glad that this week was a four day work week, but it felt longer because of that.

Let's talk about the fabulous parts of this week:

  • it was only a four day work week
  • the weather was nice at least one day this week!
  • Walking Disaster was released and is fabulous so far. If you haven't read Beautiful Disaster, I highly suggest it!
  • a tough, but good workout at CrossFit on Tuesday night
  • a yummy dinner made by Mr.D on Thursday night
  • finding out that my vacation was approved
Have a great weekend everyone!

Travel help needed!

My vacation request was finally approved yesterday, so that means just over one month until I leave for Ireland!! I am flying to Ontario to meet up with my mom, her friend and her daughter. Then we fly into Dublin for 8 days of touring around different cities to see different castles. So, so excited because I have never taken a trip like this.

Since I have never packed for a trip like this, I thought I'd turn to my wise readers to see if anyone can suggest things that I must bring {already have the umbrella!} or the best things to pack clothes wise. I know comfortable clothes are a must for the long flights and for the travelling around, but other than that I am lost. I always said I would never own a pair, but I am thinking of buying myself a pair of Toms. I just figure that they'd be easy to pack and great for touring around. What is the best place to buy a pair?

For those of you who have been to Ireland, is there any MUST see/do things if we have the chance? I'd love to hear what you've done and enjoyed.

Home tour: master bedroom update

Last week, I showed you the DIY project that I did {find it here}, but never mentioned what I had planned to do with it. Well, the space above our bed has been empty since we moved in, so I thought it would work perfectly for that space. When we moved into our house, I did a house tour and I thought I would give you an update of what I've done to it. It's nothing major, but much better than the plain room it was before.

Before

Just a couple simple touches to the room and I like it so far. I still want to paint the room, but that will have to wait until marathon training is done and I have more time on the weekend.

Tell me: have you done any updating to your house lately?

Another week of training is in the books! I haven't talked about it much on the blog, but I somehow signed myself up for a full marathon in May, so that's why my runs have been getting up there in kilometers lately. Highlights of the weekend

Happy Easter everyone! My Easter was actually very quiet because Mr.D has been out of town since last weekend. He got back late last night, so it's been Harley and I for the week.  I was off on Friday and today too, so it's been nice to have a four day weekend. Oh and the weather has been beyond gorgeous! I ran in a tank top and capris on Friday and ended up with a sunburn...in March.

1. Bought myself some pretty tulips
2. Erica and I during our run on Friday
3. 30kms in the books!
4. Harley always wanting to play with his ball
5. I made a yummy sour cream coffee cake on Sunday
6. Picked up an adorable outfit for a friend's new baby

Other than that, I took Harley on lots of walks, enjoyed the sunshine, read a couple books, bailed coming down the stairs half a sleep on Saturday night and watched people from CrossFit do the 13.4 workout.  A great weekend indeed!

Tell me: how was your weekend and Easter?
