Highlights of 2014: part two

You can find part one here

In July, I finally shared our exciting news on the blog! Other than that, it was a quiet month enjoying the sunshine:)
In August, I took two weeks of holidays and we enjoyed the time off by spending time at home and making a side trip to Drumheller. We celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary with a delicious dinner out to the Lake House. We also had our second ultrasound and found out that baby d is a little girl!

September brought the first snowfall to Calgary, which was not fun! I went on a girls trip to San Francisco, which was a lot of fun! You can find my recaps here and here.

October brought my birthday and another fabulous post from Mr.D, which can be found here. We also took a quick trip to Ontario and was spoiled with a baby shower while we were there.

November was a quiet month with not much going on except growing a baby :)

December brought my last day at work, Mr.D's birthday and of course Christmas :)
This year definitely had lots of highlights! Can't wait to see what 2015 brings!

{baby d}: week thirty six

Just a friendly reminder that I am posting my weekly recap a week behind

Gah, getting so close yet so far away! That belly is sure getting big though. Oh boy!

Feeling: a bit tired last week being that work was busy before we closed for the holidays. Otherwise, still no major complaints.

Workouts: still mainly lots of long walks with Harley and that's it

Other:
  • had my 36 week check up at the maternity clinic. The doctor did a quick ultrasound and she is still head down, which is good to hear! Also had the swab for the group b strep- fingers crossed it comes back negative. Otherwise, everything looked good.
  • had my last day of work, which was such a strange feeling.
  • we stopped at the Carters store before heading home after Christmas and they had some great deals! Found ten items for baby D for under $40!
  • My work threw baby D and I a surprise shower last week and spoiled us rotten! This is only some of the stuff that they got us....seriously, so spoiled!

A little catch up

Christmas is over and done with for another year. Crazy how fast it all goes by! Now we just have to put the tree and decorations away....my least favorite part.

Let's see what we were up to:

  • went to a Christmas gathering on Christmas eve with Mr.D's family. They do a Chinese gift exchange, and I got a fuzzy new blanket. Perfect for this blanket lover :)
  •  had a wonderful Christmas dinner at my BIL/SIL's house on Christmas day. Still full from it! It was fun to spend time with our nieces
  • went out for dinner with our friends that were in town for the holidays. We hadn't seen them since we were in Europe (they live in Wales), so it was nice to catch up with them
  • took Harley on lots of long walks in the river valley- Mr.D's parents live really close to it, which is perfect as there is an off leash area, so Harley can run until his heart is content :)

Tell me: how was your Christmas?

{baby d}: thirty five weeks

Just a friendly reminder that I am posting my weekly recaps a week behind

Thanks Nicole for lending me the shirt!
Harley was too busy looking at the birds flying by to cheese it up for the camera this week :) Holy smokes, this pregnancy is flying by! Less than 35 days to go.

Feeling: I was having the worst pain in my pelvis/lower belly area on Thursday and Friday. I had taken Harley for a walk and had to keep stopping as the pain would just suddenly come on. It ended up going away by Saturday, so I am guessing that the belly was going through a growth spurt again as it sure feels bigger! Other than that, just tired.

Workouts: not the greatest week as I was out of Tuesday night, Wednesday is baby class and then Friday I was in too much pain to walk Harley. Oh well, not the end of the world.

It's funny to look at my 15 week picture and think I had a belly then. I had no idea what was in store for me! Haha.

Other:

  • finally decided on my last day of work! I work until the 23rd (I had booked the half day on the 24th off back during our vacation planner) and I won't be going back on January 5th when our office reopens. I plan on using vacation and some other time I have to relax, sleep in and get a bunch of stuff done before she hopefully makes her debut :)
  •  the breast feeding pillow that I ordered back in November finally arrived!
  • I picked up some bottles and a pump that Kaella kindly gifted to me.
Questions for the mom's:
  • in baby class this week, we were talking about the dad having the option to cut the cord- I'm curious...how many of your husbands/partners cut the cord?
  • for those of you who have kids without allergies, what type of laundry detergent do you use on their clothes? I was gifted a bottle of baby laundry detergent, but just wondering if it's a must? Or what kind you use?

Highlights of 2014: part one

It's crazy that another year is almost coming to a close. I swear the months keep going by faster and faster! Let's see what we did this passed year:

In January, my mom and younger brother came for a visit. We spent the weekend in Banff and visiting Lake Louise. We lucked out as there was a free concert going on that weekend!

February was apparently a quiet month for us as I have no pictures on my computer. I know that I was busy training for the Calgary marathon in the snow and cold!

March was another month spent training for the Calgary marathon in the snow and cold. I ran the Run for L`Arche half marathon and almost set a new PR even in the snow!

April was a good and bad month for me. This is when I unfortunately hurt my knee at CrossFit, which meant my training for the Calgary marathon was put on hold for the year. No more marathon for me :( A good part of the month was that I made a trip home and got to spend time with my family.

May was a definitely exciting month! First off, I made another trip home to celebrate my older brother getting married.  Secondly, this was the month that Mr.D and I found out that we were expecting!

June was spent taking a road trip to Kamloops with Mr.D and my younger brother to celebrate our cousin getting married.

Canadian blogger Christmas swap 2014: post link up

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who signed up and participated in the swap this year! I love that people want to do it and get excited for it. I know that it makes it worth it to Lindsey and I to organize it :)

Fingers crossed the link up works below, so feel free to add your post to the link up. I'm excited to read everyone's posts and see what ornaments you received :)

{baby d}: thirty four weeks

Just a friendly reminder that I am posting my weekly recaps a week behind

Doesn't Harley look so impressed to be in this one?! Haha. I'm guessing he spotted something in my in-laws backyard that looked better than sitting for a picture with his pregnant mother.

And only because it's funny, I had to include this outtake:

Such a gentleman that Harley!

Feeling: starting to get a little anxious and nervous that she could be here really soon! It's weird to think that my pregnancy is getting close to the end. I had one terrible night last week where I woke up at 12:45am with the worst heartburn ever! Tums was not helping, so I got out of bed and watched tv until almost 2:30am when it finally went away. So glad my heartburn has not been nearly that bad!

Workouts: not much besides my almost daily walks with Harley (they range from 3.2kms-5kms). I just don't have a huge desire or the energy levels most nights to much else, which is okay with me. I know I'll have time to get back into working out once she is here.

Other:

  • baby D has received a few packages lately and has been spoiled by friends near and far! Thank you so much to the three of you!
From Lindsey and Avery
From Kaella and London

From Gabriella and Homie- she also included a bone for Harley, but that didn't last long!

  • I love that she received two pairs of the the all you need is love pjs! Both are different sizes, which is perfect!
  • I had my 34 week check up, which means the end of biweekly appointments and onto weekly appointments at the maternity clinic. Her heart rate was in the 130's this time (it's been mainly in the 140's) and belly was measuring 33cms. The doctor didn't say anything this time, but she was also very frazzled and running way behind. I've enjoyed going to this maternity clinic, but that wasn't the greatest appointment. Otherwise, nothing new to report :)
  • still trying to decide when my last day of work is going to be. I just can't make a decision!
  • for the mom's that breastfeed, do you have any good resources to share that I can look at? Either book or website?

Wishing you the happiest of birthdays

Today is Mr.D's birthday, so I wanted to take the time to write him a short post to say happy birthday! I will never be able to write as good of a post as Mr.D does for my birthdays, but I know that I can take the time to try.

Mr.D is the sweetest, most loving and most caring husband. He will never complain when I ask him to write my yearly birthday posts nor will he complain when I've signed up to train for another long distance race. Instead, he will always support me, cheer me on and be there come race day.

I am so excited to see Mr.D transition from a husband and doggy daddy to father to our daughter. I know that he is going to be amazing and will be the best father ever.

Happy birthday Mr.D! Harley and I love you :)

Scenes from the weekend

I failed yet again to take any pictures this weekend...must get better at that!

{friday} one of Mr.D's friends came into town to watch another one of their friends fight (it was kind of like amateur UFC). I had no desire to go, so I took Harley to get his nails cut and then stopped at Winners. I headed home and was in bed by 9:15pm! It was partly due to me feeling not 100% and there being nothing on tv :)

{saturday} we were up and off to Edmonton early in the morning for a friend's surprise going away party. It was raining/snowing when we left, but luckily the highways weren't too bad as they were calling for freezing rain. We made a quick stop in Red Deer to drop something off for Lindsey. I also go to see Miss Avery and her downward dog, which was super cute :) Once we got to Edmonton, we caught up with Mr.D's parents and then headed out for a walk in the ravine with Harley and my FIL and their dog. There was freezing rain that morning in Edmonton, which made the sidewalks and pathways very slick- no falling for me. I save that for at home ;)

That night, we headed out for Chinese food at Lingnan's {they are a bit famous as they had a show on TV} with Mr.D's family to celebrate his birthday a bit early. Food was yummy as always and it was good to see our nieces. After dinner, we headed to the going away party (one of Mr.D's good friends is leaving to go to medical school abroad). We ended up leaving around 10:30pm as we were both really tired.

{sunday} in the morning, Mr.D had gone to visit his grandma with his mom, so I took Harley for another long walk in the ravine with my FIL. After that, we made the three hour trip home (I also took two naps on the ride home- perfection!).

A bit of a busy weekend, but a fun one!

{baby d}: week thirty three

Just a friendly reminder that I am posting my weekly recaps a week behind

I got Mr.D to sneak a picture before we headed out for maternity pictures :)

Feeling: still having groin/pelvic pain. I felt anxious and nervous (see below for more info), but otherwise good.

Workouts: lots of walks with Harley and a weight workout from Nhershoes shred when I did it a while ago

Other:
  • on Tuesday morning, my alarm had gone off and I accidentally hit my phone off my bedside table. My phone ended up falling close to the two carpeted steps that are in our room {sounds strange I know, but our room is above the dining room area and we think they wanted the ceiling to be raised in there}. In my half asleep/forgetting I was 33 weeks pregnant state, I tried to lean over and grab it, but ended up falling out of bed onto the steps on my side. I mainly hit my hip area, but was still a little nervous. I knew if I didn't get checked out, I would have worried and worried. Later that morning, I headed to the hospital (Mr.D was luckily able to leave school and meet me there) where I was hooked up to monitors for about an hour and asked lots of questions. Luckily, everything looked good with baby and myself, so I was able to leave over an hour later. Definitely relieved and felt silly explaining what had happened!
  • getting a sneak peek of our maternity pictures- Lindsay did a great job and I am so happy that I decided to get some done!
  • I don't think I've mentioned it before, but I've been using olive body cream from the Body Shop on my belly since the beginning and no stretch marks yet. It's so dry in Alberta and this definitely helps.

Canadian blogger Christmas swap 2014 {my package}

Last week, I received my package from the fabulous Leslie and I was so excited to open it! I don't know about you, but I love receiving something in the mail other than bills :)

In my package, Leslie included a card, fun napkins, Lindor chocolates (my favourite kind!), lip balm and an adorable ornament! Thank you again Leslie :)

I will be posting the link up on December 18, 2014, so make sure you blog about your package before then :)

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Just think- only two more Monday's until it's Christmas vacation time :)

{friday} my weekend started early as I took the afternoon off to use up some overtime. I headed to the mall (oh man, the parking lot was crazy busy, but the mall wasn't too bad) to look for an outfit for our maternity pictures the next day. I found a possible shirt that was also on sale, so I decided to just buy it anyways. I picked up a few other things as well and then headed home. I took Harley for a walk and then got our house ready for Mr.D's work party.  Everyone came over around 7:30pm and it went well! I think I went to bed around 12am, which is the latest I've stayed up in a long time!

{saturday} we both had a little sleep in in the morning and then spent the morning hanging out and getting ready for the maternity pictures. We met up with Lindsay to get our pictures done and she was fabulous! She posted a couple teasers and I love both of them!

I can't wait to see the rest of them! After pictures, we headed home and I ended up having a close to two hour nap. The rest of the night was spent hanging out at home and watching This is Where I Leave You. It was a cute movie :)

{sunday} I was up pretty early for a weekend, so I decided to beat the crowds and go get groceries before it got crazy. After groceries, we took Harley for a long walk in the beautiful sunshine. The rest of the day was spent having another nap, making banana muffins and making dinner.

Tell me: how was your weekend?

Five on Friday

{one} happy Friday everyone! This week has been busy outside of work, so I am so happy it's Friday!

{two} I only work until 1pm today as I took the afternoon off to use up some overtime. I'm heading to the mall to hopefully to find something to wear for our maternity pictures and then heading home to get ready for Mr.D's work party that we are hosting.

{three} if you signed up for the Canadian Christmas blogger swap, please make sure your packages have been sent out! The date to send them out was Tuesday, so get on it! :)

{four} it blows my mind that Christmas is almost here and the year is almost over. Where the heck did 2014 go?!

{five} have a great weekend everyone!

{baby d}: week thirty two

Just a friendly reminder that I am posting my weekly recaps a week behind

Excuse the outfit and sweet hiking shoes in my picture. This is what happens when it's -19C out and I have no desire to get dressed in real clothes. This was also the quickest photo shoot we've done as it was so freaking cold out!

Feeling: overall, still pretty good. Had one really uncomfortable day at the beginning of the week (she was sitting really high and in my ribs), which was the first day I've said that I haven't enjoyed being pregnant. Otherwise, still the typical groin pain and tiredness of being pregnant :)

Just in case you wondered what size she was this week...not a clue what that is though!
Workouts: not a great week of workouts as it was so cold and snowy near the end of the week. Still managed to fit in four long walks with Harley, a weights workout and an at home tabata workout

Other:
  • I had my 32 week check up and everything still looks good. I go to a practice that has 6-8 doctors that rotate through the clinic and hospital, so I usually end up seeing a different doctor each time. The doctor this week measured my belly and it was only 30cms, so she did it again and luckily it was closer to 31.5-32cms (your belly should measure the same as the number of weeks you are). She said it's nothing to worry about as it was different doctors and everything else looks good. I gained less than a pound in the last two weeks, but she didn't comment on that. Baby girl's heart rate was still in the 140's.
  • we started our baby classes last week. We signed up for the birth and babies, which is 10 weeks long and goes after the baby is born. It was funny because three other couples (plus us) are all due on January 20th and delivering at the same hospital (there are four major hospitals that you can deliver at in Calgary). The class was a lot of introductory stuff, but I definitely think it's going to be worth it for us.
  • we came home to a surprise of a swing on our door step from my BIL and SIL, which was super nice of them!

  • ordered two changing pad covers from Tara's Cozy Creations {thanks for the recommendation!}, which should be arriving some time next week
  • decided to go with a small ottoman that has a tray on the lid for beside the chair in the nursery as I couldn't find a small side table I liked. Also picked up a lamp for it, so just need to hang the pictures and the nursery is done!

Easy DIY Christmas project

Since it was so cold and I had no desire to leave the house this weekend, I was looking on Pinterest and came across an idea that I knew I could easily duplicate. Best part of the project was that I had everything at home, so it cost me nothing.

Supplies:
  • mason jars
  • spray paint
  • painters tape
  • fake snow
  • LED candles
Steps:
  1. using your painters tape, cut out your letters or design and place onto the mason jar(s)
  2.  ask your loving husband to spray paint them for you since you are pregnant. Just make sure he doesn't knock a jar onto the cement floor causing it to break ;)
  3. once the spray paint has dried, remove the painters tape and fill your jars with fake snow. Then add the LED candles and enjoy your handiwork :)

Tell me: have you done any easy DIY Christmas projects lately?

Scenes from the weekend

Another weekend down and only three more until Christmas! Guess I really need to get finished with those Christmas presents.

{friday} it was so cold and snowy out that it took me over an hour to get home (it usually takes 25-30 minutes). We ended up just hanging out at home and watching a movie on netflix.

I think it's hilarious that Harley lays near the vent when the furnace turns on
{saturday} in the morning, I did lots of cleaning and organizing around the house. We also set up our Christmas tree and decoration, so the house is looking a little Christmasy. The rest of the day was spent having a nap and hanging out. We braved the cold and went out for dinner and to pick up a few things for the nursery. It's almost done which feels good!

{sunday} in the morning, we ran to get groceries and then I bundled up in a million layers to walk Harley. Thankfully the sun was out so it could have been worse. In the afternoon, I made some Christmas cookies and enjoyed a grilled cheese- is there a better and easier lunch?!

{five on friday}

{one} happy Friday everyone! We are about to get a big dump of snow and really cold weather, so I have a feeling this weekend will be all about hibernating.

{two} just a friendly reminder that the Christmas blogger swap packages are to be sent out by Tuesday December 2, 2014 at the latest. If your package is going to be super late, please let your partner know :)

{three} I'm jealous of everyone's turkey dinners...well maybe just the stuffing. Feel free to send any extra stuffing my way :)

{four} we are putting up our Christmas tree and decorations this weekend...crazy that Christmas is less than a month away!

{five} have a great weekend everyone!

{baby d}: week thirty one

Just a friendly reminder that I am posting my weekly recaps a week behind

Feeling: much better than last week! My stomach still has it's moments, but definitely better. A bit of heart burn and groin pain, but otherwise, feeling good.

Workouts: six walks with Harley and one strength training. Not the greatest week, but still glad I`m getting out and walking almost everyday with Harley still.

Other:
  • I picked up the adorable moccasins from LePetitCoco that I had ordered. Best part is that the shop owner lives in Calgary, so I was able to swing by and pick them up. Can't wait until baby girl can wear them!
  • where can I find a grey or yellow changing pad cover? Anyone have a good seller to use on Etsy?
  • baby D also got spoiled by my brother and his wife. They sent us a package filled with adorable outfits and goodies for baby D.

Randomness for your Tuesday

I've got a bunch of random thoughts for you today...
  • I have two $20 USD codes for Shutterfly that expire on January 31, 2014. We aren't doing Christmas cards and doubt I'll be able to make birth announcements before then. Does anyone have a use for them? I could send you the code or mail them to you.
  • we are going to a wedding on NYE and I have nothing to wear. I'm looking for a form fitting dress (preferably lace)...any ideas of where to find one? Not looking to spend $200 either
  •  does anyone watch Homeland? It's quite the season!
  • who wants to pick out an outfit for me to wear for our maternity pictures? I have no idea what to wear.
  • baby girl was hanging out on my right ribs yesterday and it was the first day where I was truly uncomfortable being pregnant. Tough life I know :)
Tell me: something random for your Tuesday!

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Just over four weeks until Christmas holidays, which is crazy. Not quite feeling ready for Christmas, but ready for the time off work.

{friday} Mr.D headed to Edmonton for the night for a friend's birthday party, so it was just Harley and I. We went for a walk and then I headed out to Winners and Target to pick up some stuff for Christmas and for our work donations (we 'adopt' seniors that may not otherwise receive anything for Christmas).

{saturday} in the morning, Harley and I went for a walk and then hung out around the house. Harley practiced his really weird way of coming down the stairs:

Haha, such a character. Mr.D came home just after lunch and his parents came too (they planned on coming before Mr.D decided to go up there too).  My FIL and Mr.D worked on some projects while my MIL and I ran to Michaels and HomeSense. Later on that night, we went out for dinner to NOTaBLE and left with very happy bellies. Such good food there!

{sunday} Mr.D's parents left in the morning, so we caught up on some TV shows and then I might have had a nap on the couch ;) In the afternoon, I ran some more errands for my work Christmas donations. We ended the weekend by getting Chinese food...so good!

Tell me: how was your weekend?

{baby d}: week thirty

Just a friendly reminder that I am posting my weekly recaps a week behind

Is anyone surprised that Harley made it into another weekly picture? Haha, what a dog.

Feeling: last week was not a great week at all. My stomach was still not feeling great and no idea what caused it. Maybe baby girl sitting weird on my insides? I ended up taking a sick day on the Thursday and just hung out at home napping and watching tv.  Not being able to take anything (ie: pepto) while pregnant sucks!

Workouts: not a great week because of my stomach, but still got some walks in with Harley.

Other:
  • had my 30 week check up at the maternity clinic. I mentioned my stomach issues to the doctor and she said it's nothing to worry about as long as I wasn't having cramps/contractions or blood in my stool. She said to come back in if I didn't start feeling better just in case. Heartbeat was in the 140's and belly was measuring as it should. Still crazy that I am now going every two weeks.
  • Mr.D put the crib together, which is crazy to see when I walk into the nursery
  • baby girl received the most adorable package from Kristin. She is spoiled already!

Questions for the mama's:
  • what type of breast pump do you have? Would you recommend it?
  • what type of bottles have you tried and used?
  • did you read any parenting books while pregnant? If I don't, am I going to be a terrible parent? Haha
  • for those of you in Canada, can you complete anything for EI before you go off on mat leave? Or better to wait until I have started my mat leave/baby is born?
