TGIF

Happy Friday everyone! We had a good, but busy week around here.

This week, we:
  • Tuesday: we went and got groceries in the morning and then went to our last aquasize class in the afternoon
  • Wednesday: we didn't do too much in the morning as Harley was at doggie daycare so we didn't have to walk him. I worked out while Amelia had her morning nap. In the early afternoon, we went to meet up with M & M at a local play place. She spoiled me and brought me some brownies..so delicious! We totally failed at a getting a picture.
  • Thursday: in the morning, we took Harley for a walk and hung around the house. In the afternoon, we met up with two friends from our prenatal group at a play place that was having a Halloween party. It was so cute seeing them dressed up! I put Amelia down for a nap when we got home, but Amelia decided 25 minutes was long enough. Luckily, she was fairly happy. Mr.D had a work thing in the evening, so it was just Amelia and I.

The book I read was nothing again. I need something to read- what have you read lately?

The meals we had this week were:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Birthday, weekend and mom visit

This post might be a long one, so settle in ;)  First, thank you everyone for your sweet comments on Mr.D's birthday post on Monday. I'm a lucky girl to have him! I was definitely spoiled by my family and friends.

Let's rewind to last week- my mom flew in on Wednesday night around 9:30pm. I picked her up and we basically went to bed once we got home. On Thursday and Friday, we went to Costco, Walmart and Cross Iron Mills. Not much luck for either of us at any of them. Well, Amelia was treated to some foam blocks by grandma at Toys R Us. Amelia also treated us to a two hour nap on Friday afternoon, so some of us might have rested our eyes as well ;)

On Saturday morning, Mr.D went biking with Justin so it was just us girls. We walked up to our local community club as they were giving away pumpkins with a food bank donation. We picked out two good ones {grabbed one for Delainey as they weren't able to come} and headed home. It was chilly that morning!

We didn't do too much in the afternoon...just hung around at home. Once Amelia went to bed (she was super grumpy so I didn't want to make my mom deal with that), Mr.D and I headed out for a late dinner. When we got back from dinner, we started watching Trainwreck. Probably not a good one to watch with your parent in case you were thinking about it ;)

On Sunday, Mr.D's mom drove down to spend the day/night with us. The mom's ran out and picked up Halloween decorations for the outside of our house...it's officially ready for Halloween. That night, we had a delicious steak dinner along with chocolate cake...can't go wrong!

On Monday (my birthday), Mr.D's mom left in the morning. After Amelia's nap, I drove my mom to the airport (sad face). We headed back home for Amelia's nap and I had one as well. We facetimed with my family in Ontario once we were up, which was nice. The afternoon was spent taking Harley for a run and hanging out. Mr.D made delicious shrimp tacos for dinner which I had requested. A fairly low key birthday, but it was great :)

I think that about covers it!

**********************************************

Another year has past, and this year not much has happened at all in our lives...... well nothing except our lives changing as we know it!

Our gift came to us on January 17th, and I've never been so unprepared for a present in my life.
Those first couple of months seemed to just fly by. Between getting up multiple times a night for feedings, cry-eat-sleep cycles, and a general feel of anxiety that we were doing everything wrong, I have a hard time pinpointing exactly when certain events were taking place. Lucky for me I have a wife who is excellent at documenting these important events, so I can look back on them afterwards and say "Oh yeah, I remember that".

Leigh took to motherhood like a fish to water (she may say differently, but through my eyes she is a natural). The bond between mother and daughter was instant.
She was our tiny little life that we were now responsible. I know many of you who read this blog are parents, so you know the love and attachment you feel for your kids, but I was not prepared for the emotional reaction I would feel anytime Amelia would look into my eyes.
I had to go back to work and leave Leigh at home with Amelia. I had it easy. At work, I get breaks. Multiple breaks every day. Leigh doesn't get breaks. She works from the moment I leave for work until I come home. Even when I get home she needs to work, whether to make dinner or finish laundry or just clean the house, Leigh works from 7:00am to 7:00pm. I don't know how she does it. I don't know where she gets the energy from. All I know is that she is a champ. She is a better person than me, and I love and appreciate her for it.

Spring quickly came, and if you readers didn't know, I love to mountain bike. I knew that now with Amelia here that I wouldn't be putting rubber to dirt as much as I have in previous years, but once again Leigh really came through and would let me have hours almost every weekend to keep bombing down the mountains.

Amelia kept growing like a weed, and it was amazing to see her cognitive development. Learning to hold things in her hand, trying new food, each new experience rewarded Leigh and I with some amazing facial expressions.

The summer was absolutely gorgeous, and it afforded us the opportunity to visit Leigh's family in Ontario, and that also means family babysitting!! Leigh and I hadn't had a lot of time to ourselves since Amelia was born, so we took advantage of some evenings by ourselves.

Summer blended into fall, and Amelia is becoming more interested in the things that are happening around them, which means she needs more stimulation. We continue to be amazed with her development, and frustrated by her unreasonable whining and crying. Leigh has developed some pretty amazing patience with Amelia, and I am so proud of how she has developed into a loving understanding mother. I love to see the way Leigh and Amelia grow closer and closer to each other every day.

I love you Leigh, happy birthday.

Mr. D

P.S. bonus photo of what I thought parenting would be like BEFORE Leigh got pregnant.

TGIF

Happy Friday everyone! It's been a gorgeous week here weather wise...I'm talking going for walks in capris and t-shirts. I'm not ready for winter at all!

The high of my week was having my mom come to visit on Wednesday night! She is here until Monday night. It was also wonderful having my hair done on Monday night Amelia has also figured out how to sit up really well and army crawl this week as well. It's been fun to watch her learn this, but also leads to...

The low of my week was Amelia fighting her naps on Thursday because she figured out how to sit up and pull up in the crib! I quickly lowered her crib mattress that day, but oh man naps were not fun.

The best money I spent was on some new shampoo/conditioner from Costco. Once again, my life is exciting ;)

The book I read was none this week. I fell out of the book reading groove this week.

The meals we had were:
When my cousin was here on the weekend, I also made jalapeno popper stuffed chicken with baby potatoes and stir fry veggies. I also made apple crisp (from Iowa Girl Eats yet again!)....both were pretty delicious!

Have a great weekend everyone!

{amelia}: nine months

These are getting harder and harder to take!
You can find her previous updates here:

Weight/height: she had a doctor's appointment yesterday and was 18lbs 5ounces. Not sure if I believe that scale, as I take her to the community clinic monthly and she was 18lbs 12ounces on September 24th. She was 71.5cms today, which is 50th percentile for both. Either way, she is growing and healthy so that's all that matters :)

Hair/eyes: hair is still blonde and growing quite a bit. Eyes are still very blue!

Loves:
  • rolling everywhere
  • babbling/screaming
  • bathtime
  • blowing spit bubbles with her mouth
  • playing with the door stops

Hates:
  • getting her face cleaned
  • staying still to change her diaper
Eating: shortly after she turned 8 months old, we introduced formula at bedtime (usually mixed with breast milk). I just felt like I couldn't keep up with her to have enough at the end of the day for a bottle, so made this choice. It's so silly how guilty I felt about it and I definitely shouldn't at all! I am still nursing throughout the day and pumping once in the morning. She is still eating purees with a mix of food cut up when she refuses to be fed with a spoon.

Sleeping: still good in this department. She goes to bed at 7pm and is usually up between 4-5am for a quick feed and then up for the day between 6-7am. She is napping three times a day (usually at 9am, 1pm and 4pm) and the first two naps are usually 60-70 minutes in length.

Other:
  • in the last few days, she has started to be able to sit up on her own from laying down! She is also starting to army crawl...not far, but she can make her way to something if she really wants it
  • still wearing size 3 diapers in swaddlers/baby dry
  • clothing ranges - mostly 9 month stuff with some 12-18 month stuff mixed in (like the outfit above)

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! We had a good weekend...let's see what we were up to:

{friday} Amelia and I didn't do too much during the day...took Harley for a walk, did some cleaning around the house and went to get a few groceries. My cousin A was in town for a conference, so Mr.D went to pick her up after work. Once they got back to our house, her and I headed out for dinner. It was nice to catch up and get out of the house! When we got back, we watched Southpaw and stayed up too late.

Little miss trouble getting into my products!

{saturday} in the morning, Mr.D went for his bike date with Justin. My cousin and I just hung out until I took her downtown to her conference. The rest of the afternoon was spent hanging out at home with a grumpy Amelia. I did manage to put up some Halloween decorations and make a Halloween craft with Amelia. Well, I used her feet and I did the rest ;) My cousin got back around 5:30pm and I made us dinner at home. We spent the rest of the night hanging out at home.

{sunday} my cousin had to be downtown by 8am, so I dropped her off and then headed home. While Amelia napped, I had one as well and it was perfection! Once she was up, we ended up going back downtown again as my cousin forgot something at our house. After we dropped it off, we went to a local Christmas craft market. No luck at getting anything though. In the afternoon, I went for a 9km solo run and then did some laundry.

Tell me: how was your weekend?

TGIF

Howcome the short weeks always feel super long? And I'm not even working! Oh well, we made it and it's Friday! Woo hoo.

The highs of the week were:
  • getting to spend Monday with Mr.D and Amelia
  • water fights with Amelia's bath toys
  • walk in the sunshine with Jen (& Wes)
The low of the week was nothing really sticking out in my mind besides a few grumpy moments from Amelia.

The best money I spent was on some new hair product and some face masks. Shit, that doesn't make me sound very exciting at all! Haha.

The book I am currently reading is The House at the End of Hope Street. Lisa and Amber both talked about it, so I thought I would check it out. I'm enjoying it so far!

The meals we had were:
  • Monday: sandwhiches as we had no desire to cook
  • Tuesday: quiche with sausage and bacon
  • Wednesday: salmon with wild rice and cauliflower. We cooked the salmon as per this recipe, but added a dill sauce that Mr.D makes to it instead. We also followed the recipe below for the cauliflower...we never cut it any other way after finding this recipe! If you can't read the changes Mr.D made to the recipe, let me know.
  • Thursday: asian chicken meatballs with rice and broccoli. I found this recipe a long time ago and it's a good old standby in our house

Have a great weekend everyone!

Body & mind after baby: nine month update

You can find my previous updates here:

One month
Three months
Six months

******************************************************

Let's not talk about how Amelia is almost 9 months old and how my maternity leave is almost over :(

Body update

Not much has changed from my six month update in terms of my weight. It tends to fluctuate to 1-2lbs over or under my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm still keeping pretty active in the form of walking, running, 21 day fix and at home workouts.

Still not enjoying shopping for clothes, but hopefully that changes one day.

I think the biggest change was that my period returned right around 8 months post partum out of no where. I was so not excited for it to return, but Amelia had started to feed less from me and was eating more food so I wasn't too surprised. Since that period, I haven't had it again. How long does it take for it to become regular again?

Mind update

The past three months have had some highs and lows when it comes to parenting. Amelia went through another leap combined with teething, which left her having terrible naps during the day. Terrible naps = a massively grumpy Amelia = a tired and grumpy Leigh. I will admit that I lost my patience more than once with the amount of whining that was going on, but we made it through.

The biggest thing that has helped is Mr.D forcing me out of the house once a week after dinner while he does bedtime with Amelia. There are weeks where I don't have anything to do, so I wonder in the mall or a store, but it's been good. Even those couple of hours once a week make a big difference!

We've also settled into a nice routine lately and have been keeping busy with aquasize and getting together with friends. It helps makes the days go by quicker as I'm not always sure how to entertain her all day long!

Day in the life: fall 2015

You can find my previous two day in the life posts here:
April 23, 2015
July 23, 2015

I meant to record this last week, but totally forgot! I didn't want to miss out on linking up with Julia this time around.

**************************************

I am almost 29 years old (birthday is just under two weeks away), Mr.D is 32 and Amelia is almost 9 months old (she turns 9 months old in 3 days).

4:32am
I wake up to Amelia crying because she is stuck at the end of the crib. I get up to move her and decide to give her a quick feed (she has been getting up around 5am to have a feed lately). Put her back in her crib and she falls back asleep.

6:16am
She is awake for the day, so Mr.D goes to get her and takes her downstairs and feeds Harley. I go back to sleep.

6:57am
Amelia is fussy and Mr.D has to get ready for work, so he brings her upstairs to me. I feed her and then we hang out in bed for a bit.

7:13am
We head into the nursery so I can pump (so ready to be done pumping!) while Amelia plays on the floor.

7:30am
After watching Mr.D get ready for work (Amelia loves to do this), we head downstairs and I put Amelia in her highchair where she is entertained by some Cheerios. I freeze the breastmilk I pumped and then wash the bottles/pump parts. I get myself a bowl of cereal and yogurt, and feed Amelia some breakfast of apples/pears/bananas and some rice cereal. Mr.D leaves for work during this time, so we say goodbye and have a good day :)

7:55am
After cleaning up, we head to the basement to play with some toys and watch cartoons (usually watch Arthur in the morning- what the heck are they supposed to be?!). I also pack up our bag for aquasize during this time as well.

8:40am
We head upstairs to change Amelia's diaper, read two books and put her down for a nap.

8:50am
She is down for the count, so I go lay in bed and end up falling asleep for close to 30 minutes. I tell myself to be productive during this time, but napping always wins ;)

10:05am
Amelia wakes up, so I go get her from her crib to feed/change her diaper/dress her for the day. I get myself ready and we head out for a run with Harley.

11:20am
It was a gorgeous day out, so we stopped at the park near the end of our run so Amelia could go on the swings. She loved it! Once we get home, I chug some water and try and feed Amelia lunch (sweet potato and apple/kale/spinach). She was having none of it, so I let her play with the spoon while making myself a sandwich.

12pm
I'm done lunch, so I clean up Amelia's highchair and then we head back to the basement to play and throw Harley's toy for him.

12:45pm
I give Amelia a quick feed before changing her diaper, reading her a book and putting her down for a nap.

12:55pm
Amelia is fast asleep, so I decide to lay in bed and read my book. I also text with a couple friends during this time as well.

1:58pm
We have aquasizeat 2:30pm, so I make Amelia a small bottle before going in to wake her up. I don't like waking her up, but we won't make it on time otherwise. She chugs the bottle down, and then we give Harley treats and head out the door to the pool.

3:35pm
Aquasize is done, so we head out. Amelia is pretty happy, so I decide to make a quick stop at Shoppers Drug Mart to look for a specific hair product. No luck, so we head home.

4pm
We arrive home, let Harley out for a pee and stick Amelia in her highchair. She eats her leftover lunch and some plain Cheerios. I snack on hummus and crackers as I was starving!

4:25pm
I put Amelia down for her last nap of the day and browse social media.

4:35pm
She is asleep after fighting it, so I quickly jump in the shower as I stink like chlorine.

5pm
Mr.D gets home from work/stopping at Costco and Amelia wakes up. I grab her from her crib while Mr.D starts dinner (we had a delicious quiche this night). After feeding Amelia, I play with her on the floor.

5:45pm
Dinner is in the oven, so Mr.D heads out for a short run. Amelia and I head downstairs to play and watch some PRV'd shows. We also Skyped with my mom. Mr.D gets home and takes Amelia.

6:30pm
I quickly eat dinner while Mr.D takes Amelia upstairs to start her bath.

6:40pm
After making Amelia's bottle, I head upstairs to get her pjs/diaper/cream ready for after the bath. I go into the bathroom and Amelia is loving bath time today, so we let her hang out in there for longer than usual. Once she is done her bath, it's time for pjs and her bottle. While I do this, Mr.D eats dinner and has a shower.

6:58pm
Amelia is down for the night, but letting out a few whimpers here and there. I finish up the dishes from dinner and head to the basement to start typing up this post while watching TV (The Blacklist and The Big Bang Theory). Comment on a few blogs as well.

8:20pm
My hair is dry, so I flat iron it so it's not crazy tomorrow. Watch a bit more tv before heading up to bed to read.

10:26pm
Lights out!

Phew! I think that about covers it!

Tell me: what is your typical day like?

Scenes from the weekend

I think I might still be full from all of the good eating this weekend! I'm not complaining...I ate so much stuffing and it was awesome!

{friday} during the day, Amelia and I ran a few errands. Mr.D went biking with some co-workers after work, so it was just the two of the us for the evening and bedtime. Oh man, those were a longest couple of hours! Amelia had a two hour nap in the afternoon and woke up so grumpy from it and nothing was making her happy. She ended up going to bed early and I sat on the couch eating chocolate covered almonds to recover, haha.

{saturday} we got up in the morning, packed up the SUV and made the drive to Edmonton for Thanksgiving with Mr.D's family. We got there around lunch time and quickly went to take some pictures for our Christmas card as it was an absolutely gorgeous day! I think it ended up being around 22C, which is crazy for October.

We headed back to my in-laws house so Amelia could have a nap. Mr.D and his dad headed out for a long motorcycle ride, so I took Harley for a run in the river valley while Amelia and my MIL hung out. We ended up having a weenie roast in the backyard and hung out the rest of the night.

{sunday} Amelia had a super rough sleep (we share a room with her and Harley at my in-laws), which lead to two tired parents. The day was absolutely miserable out too...raining and super windy. We spent the morning helping my MIL prepare for dinner until my BIL, SIL and three nieces came over. It's fun to watch all of the girls together and Amelia start to interact with them!  We had an amazing and delicious dinner. Amelia was super grumpy all afternoon and evening, so we decided to pack everything up and head home that night instead in hopes she would have a better sleep at home. That girl loves her own crib and room, which makes it hard to travel. We ended up getting home around 10:30pm and went straight to bed.

2014 vs 2015

{monday} Mr.D was off, and he let me have a sleep in. I also took an amazing nap when Amelia had her morning nap! Once we were up and moving, we headed out to CrossIron Mills as we needed a few things. Oh man, it was so crazy busy there! The rest of the day was spent taking Harley for a walk and getting groceries.

Tell me: how was your weekend?

TGIF

Happy Friday and happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian followers! So excited for stuffing. I could do without everything else, but LOVE stuffing. Usually my BIL and fight over the left overs as we both love it so much.

The high of the week was getting together with some of the ladies from our baby group on Wednesday at a local play area. It's fun to see how much each of the babies has grown and changed already! Ooh, and Amelia giving me a couple 1 hr naps was pretty sweet too after a l-o-n-g stretch of 30 minute naps.

The low of the week was nothing really. I mean, there was the time I was changing Amelia and she had a super messy diaper so it went all over the change pad cover. That's always fun ;)

The best money I spent was on some clothes for Amelia from VV (just what she needs right? ;) haha). I found her a sweatshirt, pjs and tights. I also found myself a Lulu winter running hat- all for $16! I should have taken a picture, but I'm too lazy to go upstairs and do it now, haha

The books I read were My Fight/Your Fight by Ronda Rousey. I didn't know much about her (other than seeing her on Ellen), but loved finding more about her life.  I also read After You by Jojo Moyes, which I loved.

The meals we had were:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Three Things Thursday

Man, my motivation and ideas of what to blog about are very lacking lately! Anyone have any ideas of posts that you'd like to see from me? I'm not very interesting, but I could try :)

I've got three random things for you today:

{one} yesterday afternoon I was out for a walk with Harley and Amelia. We were waiting at a crosswalk (not with lights) and a vehicle stopped for us but the person behind them did not see in time. Crash! Luckily both people in the vehicles were fine and I gave them my name and number just in case they needed a witness. People in our neighbourhood are terrible at stopping for pedestrians in the crosswalks. It's kind of hard to miss me with a stroller and a dog, but yet so many people do not stop.

{two} we met up with some of the ladies from our baby group yesterday, and Amelia was the only baby not crawling. Haha poor girl. I know it will be a whole different ball game once she starts, so I'm savouring this time.

{three} I have a desire to run a race for some reason....anyone running any coming up?

Tell me: something random for your Thursday!

Scenes from the weekend

Phew, what a fun and busy weekend we had! Let's see what we got up to:

{friday} the crappy weather hadn't moved in yet, so I took advantage of the sunshine and went for a run with Harley and Amelia. Since we sold the car on Wednesday and we hadn't gotten the new one yet, I was stuck at home without a vehicle anyways. I also decided to make cookies in the morning, which I've pretty much ate all of them. I was supposed to get my hair done that night, but my hair dresser was sick so my appointment was cancelled. Sad face. Instead, I left after dinner and ran some errands. Not fun at all, but much easier without a baby in tow.

{saturday} the cold weather rolled in the night before and it was freezing in the morning! We dropped Mr.D off at the car dealership to sign the papers and bring the new car home. Once he got home, I ran out alone again to pick up a couple things. In the late afternoon, we headed over to Alison and Justin's house to help celebrate Delainey's 2nd birthday. Alison once again did an amazing job on the party! She thought of every little detail. We headed out shortly after 6pm as Amelia was getting cranky and no one likes a cranky baby. Once she was in bed, we watched some tv and I ended up staying up too late reading.

{sunday} another crappy day weather wise, so I spent the morning hanging out at home with Amelia while Mr.D went to get groceries. I made her some food (apples and sweet potatoes). In the afternoon, I went for a chilly 7km run with Harley. I had no desire to go, but glad I got out there.

Amelia was a bit cranky, so we did anything to make her happy which included riding on Mr.D's shoulders and pulling his hair.

Tell me: how was your weekend?

TGIF

Happy Friday everyone! I don't want to use the word, but apparently s**w is in the forecast for this weekend. Fingers crossed it doesn't actually happen!

The high of the week was selling our car one night after listing it and getting what we wanted for it! We definitely expect that and don't pick up the new car until Saturday. Another high was going to the zoo with Brie and Sully on Wednesday. It was a gorgeous day for it!

The low of the week was nothing coming to mind right now.

The best money I spent was getting my hair done tonight. Technically, I haven't spent it yet, but I know it will be worth it.

The book I read was  Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll.

The meals we had were:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Birthday wish list

Holy moly, it's October 1st! Where the heck has this year gone? Now that it's October, it means it's closer to my birthday and Mr.D keeps bugging me for a birthday list. I'm really struggling with what to ask him for (we buy birthday presents but not Christmas presents for each other). I don't need much being off work and don't have any major wants this year. But, if these things found their way to me I wouldn't be upset :)

Thanks Becky for the idea and help creating this!

(1) a gift card for the salon where I get my hair done...who doesn't love a little pampering and me time?!

(2) a gift card to Market Mall so I can buy some new clothes

(3) a gift card to the Running Room...I can always find something to buy there!

(4) A Nike half zip - perfect for running or walking Harley

(5) A Lululemon swiftly tech long sleeve in heathered alarming

(6) a blanket scarf in plaid - or any fun fall scarves! I also love the scarves from Urban Cowgirl

I would also be more than happy for a sleep in and breakfast made for me! I'm easy to please :)

Tell me: what's on your birthday or Christmas list this year?
