Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday friends! Are you ready for Christmas? Definitely not feeling that holiday spirit yet. Maybe once I'm done work on Wednesday I will be.

{friday} I had the day off, so we went to Brian's school in the morning. They had someone dressing up as Santa, so we wanted to attempt it again. Amelia started crying as soon as we walked in the school doors (maybe too many students all at once), but calmed down when one of the secretaries brought out a singing snowman. That's all she wanted to do was push the button over and over after that, haha. We didn't end up staying long and headed home. It was a cold day out, so we spent the rest of the day until nap time playing at home and I did a workout.

In the later afternoon, we packed up and headed to my work as we were having a potluck. We didn't have a great turn out, but Amelia actually had fun and was calling one of my co-workers husbands papa (he kind of looks like Brian's dad). It was so funny!

{saturday} Amelia gave us a wonderful sleep in until 7:40am! Once we were all up and moving, Brian made us pancakes and then I headed out to go to a maternity consignment store. I finally found a pair of black maternity dress pants that fit, so that was a win. I ran a couple more errands and then headed home. When Amelia went down for a nap, Brian and I joined her and it was wonderful!

In the afternoon, my friend Kim came over to see our house and have dinner. Amelia didn't play shy at all with her, but did throw an epic meltdown because we wouldn't give her more bread at dinner. Toddlers are fun ;) Once Amelia was in bed, we watched Central Intelligence.

{sunday} Brian and Justin were going biking, but didn't end up leaving until later. When Justin came over, Alison and the kids came too so we could have a play date and she could see our house. The kids played well together and we got some girl talk in, so that's a win :) After they left, Amelia and I had lunch and then I put her down for a nap. She proceeded to play and do yoga in a her crib for an hour without sleeping, so I ended up getting her up. She finally ended up going down for a nap around 3:15pm and woke up a grouch! Other than that, I did some laundry and walked Harley in the freezing wind.

I apparently took zero pictures all weekend, so I suck haha.

Tell me: how was your weekend?

Happy birthday Brian!

I'm not even going to attempt to write a post like Brian does for my birthday as I will never come near his! I do want to write a post to say happy birthday to the best husband and father though!

Happy birthday to the guy who always makes me laugh and will laugh at my silliness. Even if it's when he is trying to fall asleep ;)

Happy birthday to the guy who Amelia talks the most about. Forget about momma, everything is dadda these days. Even when she takes a poop, she tells our day home lady that dadda pooped, haha. It's because she loves you Brian!

Happy birthday to the guy that absolutely loves biking! If he could live somewhere that he could bike everyday, he would be in absolute heaven. As much as I bug you, I know you love Amelia, Harley and I more than biking.

Happy birthday to the most supportive man I know. No matter what I decide to do whether it be running a half marathon or trying a new sport, Brian will always support me.

Happy birthday to the best dad. You love Amelia (and Harley) unconditionally, and give so much to both of them. Thank you for doing all you do for both Amelia and Harley.

As busy as our life is (and is going to get even busier with another baby), I love spending every day with you. I appreciate you making dinner almost every night, walking Harley, getting groceries, and everything else that you do for us. Happy birthday Brian!

Canadian Blogger Christmas Swap 2016: link up

Lindsey and I just want to say thank you to everyone who signed up and participated this year! We love that people get excited for it year after year, and that you come back to join in the fun :)

Brie was my partner this year, so we exchanged our packages on Saturday at the blogger Christmas party. She spoiled me with two ornaments {we both apparently couldn't decide on just one}, chocolates, and a Christmas book for Amelia. She has read it almost every night since then and loves opening the flaps! Thank you again Brie :)

If you have already posted about your ornament/package, feel free to add it to the link up below :)

{baby d 2.0}

First of all, thank you very much to everyone for all of your congratulations last week on my blog and Instagram. I appreciate :)

Second of all, I've done a terrible job documenting this pregnancy. Between moving, working full-time and being a parent to a busy toddler, I've had zero energy to do weekly pictures so far. Must get better about it!

I thought I would answer a few questions today:

When am I due?

  • June 10, 2017, so I am 14 weeks and 3 days today. My due date was moved up by four days at our ultrasound.
Will we find out what we are having?
  • yes! We found out with Amelia and I'm way too much of a planner. Do I have a feeling what this baby is? Not a single one.
How am I feeling?
  • overall, pretty good. Still having headaches here and there, and am tired but that's pretty normal. Between 7-9 weeks, I puked a lot! I never puked with Amelia, but luckily it's passed now. It was always in the morning and if I opened our fridge.
How did we find out?
  • I just want to say that Brian and I were very lucky again to be able to conceive very quickly. We are very aware that it doesn't happen for everyone that way, and our hearts go out to those that are still trying/waiting.
  • my periods are very regular, so I knew right away that I was pregnant. I didn't have any feelings (ie: having to pee all the time or sore boobs) that I was pregnant, but not getting my period was a big one.
  • I had no fun plans on how to tell Brian and couldn't wait to take a test, so I took one at work and sent him a picture of it, haha.
  • I went to see my doctor the week after, who did blood work and a urine test. He then referred me to the maternity clinic again, and I saw them at 11 weeks. We got to hear the baby's heart beat too.
Did I have an ultrasound?
  • yes, the first trimester screening one. I was super nervous going into it, but it was pretty short and everything looked healthy and normal with the baby.
  • Our next one is in January :)

14 weeks

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Can you believe there is only one more weekend until Christmas?! Not a clue where this last year and month have gone.

{friday} I left a bit before Amelia went to bed to run to Sport Chek, Costco, Michael's and Canadian Tire to pick up a couple gifts for our nieces and nephew. Other than that, we didn't do much.

{saturday} in the morning, Brian made us his usual Saturday morning pancake breakfast and Amelia insisted on sitting at the table in the big chairs with us! She actually did really well. Sat still and ate three pancakes! In the later morning, I bundled up and took Harley for a long walk. When Amelia went down for her nap in the afternoon, I worked out and then showered and got ready for the blog party.

I left around 4:45pm to pick up a couple maternity sweaters I was buying off of someone and then picked up Alison to head to Brie's for the party. Deerfoot ended up being super slow, but we made it safe and sound :) It was a fun night of lots of eating, chatting and having a gift exchange. Thanks again for hosting Brie!

{sunday} when Alison and I were driving home the night before, she mentioned that they were going to take their kids to see Santa at Deerfoot Mall. We decided to join them, but head there a bit early as it only opened at 12pm and Amelia normally goes down for a nap around 1pm. When we got there, there was already quite a line up. Luckily, the kids had fun planning together and in the play area until their turn came. When it was Amelia's turn, she wanted nothing to do with Santa and completely lost it! Hahah.

After seeing Santa, we headed out and put Amelia down for a nap as soon as we got home. Once she was down, I headed out for groceries and then Brian took Harley for a long walk.

And there goes another weekend!

We've been keeping a secret...

Amelia sure looks excited, but she doesn't know that she'll have to share her toys and books soon!

More to come :)

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! We got a tonne of snow yesterday and now it's going to be super chilly all week.  Winter is almost over right? ;)

{friday} Brian was playing squash and having beers with co-workers after school, so it was just Amelia and I. Once Brian was home and Amelia was sleeping, I took Harley for a short and slow run (aka don't ever stop running!).

{saturday} Amelia had a wonderful sleep in (7:30am!), which meant we got to sleep in too. Once we were up, Brian made us pancakes and then we got ready for the day. We headed out to get Amelia her flu shot- lots of tears and screaming took place, but some stickers and snacks calmed her down. After her shot, we stopped at Once Upon a Child to look for snow boots for her. Ended up getting two pairs, pjs, a shirt, puzzle and a book for her. Strange how that happened ;)

In the afternoon, I took Harley for a walk and then hung out while Amelia was napping. That night, I went out for dinner for a friends birthday to the Yellow Door Bistro. Funky place with delicious food!

{sunday} the snow was starting to come down, so of course we had to set up the Christmas tree! Amelia "helped" us and it was super cute! Once we had the tree and decorations up, I headed out for groceries and a couple other things. It was pretty miserable out there!

Once Amelia was down for her nap, I started to unpack some boxes and go through a bunch of stuff to get rid of. I did a quick workout from Fitness Blender and then we spent the rest of the afternoon/evening playing with Amelia, making dinner and catching up on Shameless.

Five on Friday

No apologizing from me today about not posting- just going to jump right into Five on Friday.

{one} we are all officially moved into our new house! We took possession last Friday and got started right away. The day didn't go according to plan (had to take Amelia to the doctor for lingering fevers, the painter didn't show up until I got in touch with her, etc), but it all worked out. We moved most of the boxes on Friday night and the mom's (mine and Brian's) put away a lot of our kitchen stuff. On Saturday, Brian and his dad picked up the moving truck around 9:30am and we were done moving mostly everything by 3pm. A HUGE thank you to everyone that helped us! On Sunday we went back over to the old house to finish cleaning, putting doors back on (had to take two off to get out the deep freezer from the basement), clean the garage and move random bits of stuff from the basement. I think that took us two hours, so not too bad. My mom and Brian's mom did so much for us in terms of getting stuff set up and put away at the new house. Our house would still be covered in boxes if it wasn't for them!

I thought I would be a bit sad leaving the old house, but I wasn't. Our new one feels so much more like home and we have some lovely neighbours! A couple already came over to say hi and bring us cookies!

{two} how the heck is it December already?! I feel like I was just going back to work and here we are almost a year later. I'm so not ready for Christmas. I've barely bought any gifts and just not quite in the spirit yet. Hopefully we can get our tree up this weekend.

{three} I haven't been working out at all lately as packing and moving definitely took priority. I did a workout last night from Fitness Blender, and oh man, am I ever out of shape!

{four} for those of you participating in the Christmas blog swap, a friendly reminder that your packages are to be sent out by today! If yours is going to be late going out, please ensure your partner is aware :)

{five} what's new in your life? I've been sort of reading blogs, but not commenting at all. Must get better about it!

Have a great weekend!

{amelia}: twenty two months

I feel like I don't have that much to update you on Amelia, yet so much at the same time. Does that even make any sense? I'm a little late posting this, but Amelia just turned twenty two months old. Crazy that her second birthday is just right around the corner!

Amelia is learning so much and catching on to things so quickly! She knows that if someone is sleeping (ie: when I pretend to sleep on the couch), she puts her finger to her lips and go shhh. She does that with her baby when she puts it to sleep too. I love it! She also loves coloring now and gets so excited if you draw something for her and then she colors it in. Another favourite thing of hers lately is bears. She will point them out in books, on tv, etc.

We've had a few rough mornings that included her screaming when we leave for the day home in the morning. We haven't figured out why, as she's happy when we drop her off and happy when we pick her up. She's also had a major rash and now a cold, so lots of sickness for our sweet girl lately.

Another struggle we are having lately is her not wanting to eat any dinner. Sometimes it's not worth the battle and we know she will eat something if she gets hungry. When she does eat, she loves: grapes, cheese, pasta, yogurt, raisins, bananas. One day we'll get some variety in there ;)

She celebrated her second Halloween and dressed as a monkey, but was unfortunately sick, so didn't get to go trick or treating. Next year :)  She isn't the biggest fan of being in the stroller for long periods of time when I'm walking Harley now, so our walks are just a wee bit slower now with her walking. She loves picking up rocks along the way and then throwing them out of the stroller later.

When we took her to the doctor earlier in November, she weighed 26 pounds (she's a solid girl, haha). Wearing 2T shirts and 18-24 month pants. In size 4 diapers and probably will be for a bit still.

We love you Amelia!

Life lately

Well, I thought November had brought everything before this, but I was wrong! After Amelia got better from her rash, I ended up with the flu and then Brian got it a couple days later. Then this week, Amelia hasn't been her regular self and has been fighting a cold. We also think that she might be getting molars as she woke up last night saying ow out of no where, and there was blood on her crib sheets. She came home with a fever on Tuesday night, so I stayed home with her yesterday. We saw a bit of her happy self last night, so fingers crossed she starts feeling better soon! I'm okay with no more sickness for a while!

In between getting sick, we've been busy packing up as we finally get possession tomorrow! I'm dreading the whole moving process, but can't wait to be settled into our new house.  My mom flies in tonight for a couple of days, so I'm off until Wednesday when she leaves. Between taking days off for sickness and vacation/special leave for moving, I feel like I haven't been at work much lately.

When I was off for two days with the flu, I decided to jump on the band wagon and start watching Gilmore Girls. Pretty sure I slept through a couple of episodes, but onto season two now. Watching so many episodes in a row means I have so many questions about it! Haha. Like why is there always so many people walking around in the town no matter the time?! And why is Rory's room on the main floor?

Just a friendly reminder for those participating in the blog swap- packages are to be mailed out by December 2nd :)

Tell me: what's new with you?

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! We had a good long weekend- a mix of getting things done, family time and our own time.

{friday} we were both off for Remembrance Day, but didn't have any plans. IN the morning, Brian made us a pancake breakfast and then we went through a bunch of drawers throwing stuff out and packing stuff up. Later in the morning, we dropped stuff off at Value Village and then went to Bowness Park. It was a bit of a chilly morning, but of course Amelia wanted to throw rocks in the river.

After the park, we headed home for lunch and Amelia's nap. Pretty sure not much was accomplished during her nap other than napping myself!

{saturday} Brian and Justin went biking in the morning, so Amelia and I hung out for a bit and then took Harley for a walk. After the walk, we headed to the library to return my books and pick up another one I had on hold. Amelia had fun playing with the toys and books.

Amelia ended up sleeping for close to three hours, so I hung out, read and had a short nap as Brian didn't get home until close to 3pm. Neither of us felt like cooking dinner, so we headed out to Amici's for some pasta. We don't go out to eat with Amelia a lot, but she was actually really good. Coloured, sat in the high chair and enjoyed her bread and pasta :)

{sunday} not sure what Amelia's problem was, but she was a grump in the morning! Whining for no reason and just not happy at all. Brian ended up taking her to the park while I ran to mall and Costco to pick up a few things. Amelia was sleeping when I got back home, so I took Harley out for a short 4km run. Ever since my last half marathon, I haven't been running much and just haven't had the motivation for it.  One day it will come back :)

Other than that, we did some laundry, some packing and made flat bread pizzas for dinner.

Family pictures

I realized that I haven't blogged about our family pictures yet! Back in August, we took advantage of a deal that LCR photography was having on a summer special. I knew that Amelia probably wouldn't last a full 1-1.5 hour session, so this was perfect. We decided to meet at Bowness Park, and it happened to be a SUPER hot evening! Amelia wanted zero to do with taking pictures and only wanted me or to throw rocks. It was basically a gong show, so my expectations of what they got were pretty low.

They ended up being super patient with us and got some amazing shots!

Life lately

Holy moly, last week kicked my butt! Last Sunday, when we were putting Amelia to bed, she felt warm so we gave her some Tylenol. She ended up being awake many, many times that night, so I was home with her on Monday. She wasn't herself at all, had fevers on and off and developed a rash. Brian stayed home with her on Tuesday as she was up all night again on Monday night. Her rash ended up getting way worse, so Brian took her to the doctor that day. He thought it was possibly a bacterial strep infection, so she was put on antibiotics. Poor girl was not herself and didn't want to eat at all :( Brian's mom came down on Tuesday night to help us and spent Wednesday/Thursday with Amelia. Luckily, the antibiotics kicked in and she started feeling better and sleeping way better. I was off on my earned day off on Friday, so we spent the day together. Her rash is still pretty red on her wrists, between her toes, and her face, but it's thankfully going away.

Before Amelia got sick, we had a Halloween party with our baby group. I totally didn't think that Amelia was going to put on her costume, but we got it on her without an issue and it was so cute! We didn't get to take her trick or treating because she wasn't feeling well, but fingers crossed for a healthy Amelia next year!

On Saturday morning, my SIL and niece were in town, so Amelia and I went for a quick visit with them. I wish we lived closer as it would be fun for Amelia to spend time with her cousin who is less than two months younger than her.

Other than that, I've been spending lots of time packing, organizing, and cleaning the house for our move. Less than three weeks now! We've also been going on lots of walks and Amelia wants to walk more and more, which means picking up lots of rocks and treasures.

Five on Friday

Happy Friday everyone! Do you have exciting plans for Halloween? We are getting together with our baby group on Sunday. We bought Amelia a monkey costume for $5 off a buy and sell site, so we'll see if she is actually going to wear it. I have a feeling not, but that's okay :)

{one} thank you everyone for your comments on Brian's birthday post. Definitely the best birthday present that he gives me each year. Love that man so much!

{two} my birthday wasn't super exciting (I was in Edmonton for work and got back at 8pm), so we didn't do anything that night. I was definitely spoiled by my family and friends, and of course Brian. I'm a lucky lady!

{three} don't forget to sign up if you haven't already for the Christmas blog swap! Last day to sign up is November 4, 2016. Spread the word!

{four} since I was gone for work Monday to Wednesday, Amelia and Brian got to have lots of time together. I sure missed her though! But being able to sleep alone and without any worries, was pretty darn wonderful! We Facetimed each night though, so I knew they were having fun and she was surviving without me :)

{five} have a great weekend everyone!

30th Birthday Post - Brian

Once again its that time where I do my best to try to convey through words how important Leigh is to me, and once again I am sure I won't make it close to getting it right. To Leigh, I apologize. To her readers, I'm sorry that you will never get to know how amazing Leigh really is.

This was taken pretty much one year ago, and look how young she looks!! So much has changed in this last year with this beauty, so much maturing. And Amelia has changed a whole bunch too :)

What I really love about this photo is how natural Leigh is as a mother. She has adapted to the role of "mom" so seamlessly that it amazes me. Look how happy Leigh is, and how happy Amelia is. Its crazy how Leigh can put her arms around Amelia and Amelia is comforted to contentment. When I would try to comfort Amelia it usually resulted in screaming and reaching for mommy. It was hard for Leigh, so hard, to barely have any time to herself. And it was so hard for me, to not be wanted by my baby, and to not be able to give relief to my wife. Now, a lesser person would complain, and whine, and begin to resent being needed. But Leigh would take her every time, and every time Amelia would smile, calm down, and be content.

This year has gone by so fast. It seems like a couple months ago I was sitting at this keyboard, typing away at the last birthday post, but so much has happened since then. Not major, big Europe trip type stuff, but the little things we use to judge the advancement of our lives.

Amelia has developed so much it is unbelievable. She seemed like such a big girl when she pulled herself up for the first time, and every time she does something new I think "wow, she is getting so big/so old/so independent. The number of "first time" events that have happened in the last year is staggering.

With advancement comes challenges, and once again Leigh is there to take on those challenges. Does Leigh do everything perfectly? Absolutely not! Mistakes are made and learned from. But does Leigh do everything with love as the most important motivating factor? She absolutely does. The love between Leigh and Amelia is palpable, and I wish I could bottle it up and use it whenever I feel sad or lonely, because just a pinch of Leigh's love is enough to get anyone through anything.

Look at how happy Amelia is, it fills my heart to see the love between these two.

I have a beautiful wife, who has made with me a beautiful family. I am lucky to have her in my life, and love her to death. And I am willing to accept that I am no longer married to a girl in her twenties. I am married to a woman/mom/amazing 30 year old, who will always make me laugh and make me feel loved.

Mi Familia

Well, that's all from me this year, I'm sure you will hear from me next year.

-Brian
