Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! We had a great weekend- full of family time, and exercise. I'm off today so looking forward relaxing and getting a massage.

[friday] after work, I stopped at the library to pick up a book and then got my bangs cut quickly. After Amelia went down for the night, I ran to the mall to return some stuff to Old Navy and look around. I found these jeans at Dynamite that fit so well, but just wasn't a huge fan of the whisking (is that what it's called?) on the thighs. Sigh.

[saturday] in the morning, Mr.D headed out for his bike date with Justin. Amelia and I headed down to the Stampede grounds for the we run social meet up and to pick up my race package. We hung out for a bit with the ladies, and then headed home. Amelia went down for a 2.5 hour nap, so I read and hung out while she napped. Mr.D's parent's got here for a visit in the afternoon as well.

Mr.D and I left around 3:30pm to go look at a couple houses with our realtor. One had potential, but the backyard was not good (it was small and terraced which isn't good for kids). The other two were absolute no's. After looking at houses, we headed out for dinner at Original Joe's (my in-laws watched Amelia) and then we had time to kill, so we went for a walk in Bowness Park. It was such a gorgeous night out! We still had time to kill before heading home (we wanted to come back after Amelia was in bed), so we stopped at Home Depot for some flowers. Aren't we so exciting ;)

I told him he wasn't being fun, so I made him pose instead haha

[sunday] I was up bright and early to run the Calgary half marathon, but I'll do a race recap tomorrow. Mr.D and his dad (& Harley) came down to the finish line, which was nice! Amelia had an epic meltdown as they were getting ready to head out, so my MIL stayed at home with her. My in-laws left shortly after we got back from the race, so Mr.D and I laid in bed as Amelia was sleeping.

In the afternoon, Mr.D headed out for another bike ride, so I took Amelia and Harley for a walk. We came home to play in the backyard and ride her trike. Amelia had another epic melt down (we think she wasn't feeling great yesterday as she has a bit of a cold), which is always a fun time. The rest of the day was spent just hanging out relaxing and rolling my legs.

Thinking Out Loud Thursday #7

Happy Thursday everyone! I'm linking up with Amanda for Thinking Out Loud Thursday.

1. Race day

Holy moly, race day is coming quickly! I did my last run yesterday and I felt good. It was 5K tempo with 1km warm up and cool down. My tempo kilometers were: 4:52, 4:48, 5:00, 4:53, 4:56. Just need to tell my brain that I can do this and that I can push through the hard parts on Sunday.

Can everyone cross their fingers for no rain? I don't mind if it's chilly, but could do without pouring rain.

2. Recent buys

I just don't have the time to go to the mall to go shopping, so I ordered some stuff online from Old Navy. I'm hit or miss without trying stuff on, but did find two cute dresses. I got this one and this one in grey.

I really want a pair of the perfectly ripped jeans- anyone have a pair that they love?

3. Things that make me unusually happy

Our toilets have had stains on them for a while and no matter how much I cleaned them, I couldn't get them fully clean. I was at Home Depot to pick up a couple other things and saw a product called Lime Out. I figured it was worth a shot and guess what? Barely any scrubbing and the toilets look so clean and sparkling! You don't understand how happy this makes me.

Tell me: something random or something that makes you happy

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday! I'm not complaining too much about it being Monday as it's a long weekend and I'm not at work today :) Besides the weather being absolutely terrible (it snowed yesterday!), it was a great weekend. Let's see what we were up to:

[friday]  Mr.D had a work event in the evening, so it was just Amelia and I. We had a fun time playing (she loves crawling all over the bed and loves it if you drop her on it or pretend to wrestle with her) before it was bed time for her. Once she was in bed, I watched some tv and then laid in bed finishing watching season one of Departures. I've seen them all before, but I started watching them again on Netflix when I was sick earlier this week.

[saturday] Mr.D did get home until late, so I was up with Amelia at 6:15am. She was luckily pretty happy and content hanging out on the couch watching tv with me. Once Mr.D got up, I went back to bed for an hour before he had to head out to get a hair cut. Amelia threw an epic tantrum over nothing (well, I noticed on Friday night that she has another molar coming through so that may be part of it) and once I finally got her calmed down, she fell asleep on me around 10am. I transferred her to her crib, and she ended up sleeping until 12:40pm. While she was sleeping, I headed out for my last long run before the Calgary half marathon next weekend. It luckily wasn't raining, but it was SUPER windy on the way back.

We didn't do much else for the rest of the day since it was so crappy out. Amelia and Mr.D hung out reading bike mags, and lots of playing.

I left before Amelia went to bed to meet up with a bunch of the ladies for dinner at Cibo. We somehow forgot to get a group picture! It was crazy loud in there, but the food was so good! After dinner, a couple of us headed to a bar/pub nearby for a drink. We all felt super old in there as the music was super loud, so we left by 11pm.

[sunday]  Mr.D let me have a sleep in, so I was up around 8:15am which was wonderful. It was snowing when I got up, so we had a pretty lazy morning while Mr.D worked on his bike. We made some banana muffins and then I let Amelia paint for the first time. It wasn't as messy as I was envisioning as she wanted to use the brush more than her hands.

Amelia went down for a nap around 11:15am, so I hopped into bed and ended up falling asleep for a while. In the afternoon, we wanted to get out of the house, so we headed to the mall to wander around and let Amelia play in the play area. We made a couple stops on our way home and spent the rest of the afternoon/evening hanging out.

We don't have any plans for today, so looking forward to spending time with Amelia and Mr.D, and getting some stuff done around the house before another work week starts.

{amelia}: sixteen months

Another two months has gone by, so I thought I would do an update on Amelia. Crazy that she's almost a year and half old!

Amelia is still doing really well at the day home. We haven't had any issues with her there and she is happy when we pick her up. Our day home lady always tells us how she "talks" so much, how she loves to eat, and how she is the princess of the house. Oh boy!

She picks up on so much stuff now- she can point to her head, belly, nose, toes and sometimes mouth. She's so proud of herself when she does it too :) If we are in the basement before bed and I ask her if she wants to have a bath, she takes off crawling up the stairs to the bathroom. Once in the bathroom, she's starting laying down on the bath mat as I always take her clothes and diaper off there before the bath. She has also started pointing her finger and babbling away if she hears Harley or the neighbours dog barking- I apparently tell Harley to stop barking a lot ;)

She hasn't been weighed lately, but I would guess she is getting close to 23lbs. My arms sure feel like it! Her hair is still growing like crazy and we almost need to get it cut as it's always in her face. She is starting to resist me putting in barrettes or ponytails, which is fun ;)

Things she loves:
  • eating
  • putting things into containers and taking them back out
  • flipping through books
  • bum dropping on the couch when we tell her not to stand on the couch
  • playing on the deck
  • playing with water
  • crawling up the stairs

She is wearing size 4 swaddlers during the day and size 4 baby dry at night. Her clothes range from 12 months at Carters (but getting a bit short), to 12-18 and some 18 month stuff.

She still goes to bed between 7-7:30pm and is up between 6-6:45am. She naps once a day at the day home for an hour to an hour and a half, but will nap longer on the weekend at home. This girl also still LOVES her bottle, so she gets one in the morning, one during the day and one at night. She's also gotten way better with drinking out of a sippy cup- she chugs the water out of them now!

She still isn't fully walking on her own. She has gotten way more steady on her feet and will walk between two people (if they sit on the ground). She also has no problem walking if you hold onto one of her hands. She just seems content to crawl to get to where she wants to go. One day she'll walk ;)

She also got two more teeth in the last two months- one on the bottom and then one molar on the bottom left hand side of her mouth. Her molar didn't seem to bother her too much, so hopefully that's the trend with the rest of them.

She also laughs SO much now and I love it! It's always at the silliest of things too. Last night I was bouncing a ball off the living room wall and she was just giggling. Love it so much.

We love you Amelia!

Surfset with Illume hot yoga

As I mentioned in my weekend recap yesterday, I got to try a workout called surfset at Illume hot yoga on Sunday. No idea what surfset is? Don't worry, I only had a vague idea going into the class. From their website:

Let’s shake things up, literally. SURFSET® is all about getting away from the traditional static workout and challenging your body in new ways. Every exercise on the board is designed to engage your core & stabilizer muscles and shock the system to create real change inside & out. The body builder look is out & the lean surfer physique is in. You have to train like an athlete to build an athletic body type, and that means multi-planar movements that engage the body & mind in challenging and unique ways.

Here is a link to a video on youtube showing you exactly what it is.

We arrived 15 minutes early to fill out forms and get a tour of the studio. Our instructor was Telara and she was fabulous! The whole place is so well put together- they had pieces of art made by a local artist which is pretty cool.

Before we knew it, we were heading into the room and got set up on our boards and of course take a few pictures ;)

Telara did a quick introduction and it was right into the workout! Our class wasn't 100% what they do in a normal class, but she definitely didn't go easy on us. I'm pretty sure when she announced that we finished the warm up, everyone groaned and said, "that was the warm up?!" After the warm up, we did a cardio, strength and core portion which left us dripping in sweat. It's crazy how many different muscles you used while doing the workout. Our class was 45 minutes in length and felt like it flew by!

I think the best of doing the class with a bunch of friends, was that we could laugh out loud at ourselves! There were a few moves that were super hard and you couldn't help laugh at yourself while you were trying not to fall off the side of the board ;)

Overall, I really enjoyed this class. It made me work more than I thought it would and loved changing it up from my normal workouts. Once I am done half marathon training, I may sign up for a 30 day intro pass for hot yoga and surf set (it's only $50! You can also do 30 day intro pass for surf set for $40).

Thanks again to Illume hot yoga and Telara for having us :)

Scenes from the weekend

Happy Monday everyone! Another weekend that went by too quickly. Let's see what we were up to this weekend:

{friday} I don't think much happened that night- Mr.D went to the mall after dinner to pick up his suit, so I put Amelia to bed and hung out.

{saturday} in the morning Mr.D went biking with Justin and another friend, so I vacuumed the house and then we took Harley for a walk. We spent the rest of the morning playing, and I did a yoga video while Amelia crawled all over me :) Mr.D got home around 1:30pm, so I quickly changed and headed out for my long run. Covered 14kms along the river and it was a windy, but nice day.

Just doing some light reading

When I got home, I quickly changed as we were going to look at a house in our neighbourhood. It had potential, but the worst part was that it smelled like cat pee! I don't mind pets because we obviously have a dog, but it was terrible. We grabbed some take out for dinner and then caught up on some tv shows once Amelia was in bed.

{sunday} oh man, Amelia woke up on the wrong side of the bed! She was super grumpy in the morning and then also puked. I can handle poop, but cannot do puke. So gross! She was so grumpy that I put her in bed and she was out like a light at 9:15am. Mr.D left to get groceries, so I laid in bed and had myself a little sleep as well. Amelia ended up sleeping for almost 2.5 hours. I left around 12pm to meet up with the blogging girls for a surf set class (more on that tomorrow!). Luckily, Amelia was pretty happy while I was in the class, so I headed with the girls to Pour for some appetizers. When I got home, Amelia threw an epic fit, and ended up falling asleep on me. We had to wake her up as it was getting close to 6pm (not good for bed time!), and she was luckily happy after that.

And just like that, another weekend is over and done with!

Scenes from the weekend: fun run, sunshine and Mother's day

Happy Monday everyone! I had a great weekend- busy, but lots of fun. I need one more day to recover from it ;)

{friday} my work was having a BBQ after work, so I left work early so I could head home to walk Harley and pick up Amelia. Mr.D was gone to a rugby tournament or else I would have gotten him to pick her up. We got back to my work around 4:30pm and Amelia loved getting lots of attention and crawling around on our deck- she was so dirty by the end!

We got home around 7pm and it was straight to the bath for her! Once Amelia was in bed, I cleaned up the house and laid in bed watching the Barkley Marathon on Netflix.

{saturday} Amelia luckily slept in until 7:15am that morning, which I was a big fan of. I had won an entrance to the St. Patrick's Island 4K run thanks to Becky, so Amelia and I headed down there for 10:30am. Going into it, I knew it was just going to be a fun run since I was pushing Amelia and had to run 18kms the next day. The course was a little strange, but it did finish on the island which they have recently updated. It's super nice in there! Leslie and I ended up running together and it was great to catch up with her.

Becky, June, Brie, Kaella, myself, Leslie and Ang
Amelia fell asleep on the run, so after we finished we joined the really long line for the food truck {they gave us a food ticket with our race package}. The food was good, but it might have been because we waited forever for it! I won't complain too much as the weather was gorgeous and it was nice chatting with everyone.

After the race, we headed home and played outside with water and toys. Amelia went down for a nap and I crashed for a bit as well. After her nap, we took Harley for a walk and hung out with our neighbours until bedtime. Mr.D got home later that night.

look at that belly!

{sunday} I got to have a fabulous sleep in until 8:15am and when I got home, Mr.D had made us pancakes and bacon. I left around 10am for my long run while Mr.D and Amelia got groceries. The weather was cooler than Saturday, which made for a nice run.

When I got home from my run, we had lunch and then Amelia went down for two hour a nap. Mr.D and I crashed shortly after her and the nap was wonderful! The rest of the day was spent doing laundry, hanging out and making apple crisp. Mr.D made us a delicious dinner as well!

When Mr.D asked me what I wanted for mother's day, I said that all I wanted was to go for a run and take a nap. I'm pretty easy to please- even though he spoiled me with a massage, a lulu gift card and breakfast made. I'm a lucky lady!
